Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Abu Dhabi on July 15 after concluding a two-day visit to Paris.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said Modi will hold talks with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and ruler of Abu Dhabi.

The prime minister is visiting France on July 13 and 14 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron. Modi will be the guest of honour at the Bastille Day parade on July 14 in Paris where a tri-services Indian armed forces contingent would be participating.

The MEA said President Macron will host a state banquet as well as a private dinner in honour of the prime minister. The two leaders will also hold wide-ranging talks.

He will separately interact with the Indian diaspora in France, CEOs of Indian and French companies, and prominent French personalities.

The ruling Trinamool Congress on  Jul 12  looked poised to sweep to a massive victory in violence-scarred rural polls in Bengal as the overnight count of ballots gave it an unassailable lead in results declared till now by the State Election Commission.

The ruling TMC has won 34,359 gram panchayat seats, besides leading in 752 seats.

Its nearest rival BJP has won 9,545 seats and is leading in 180 seats.

In all elections are being held for 63,229 gram panchayat seats.

The CPI( M) has won 2,885 and is leading in 96 seats. The Congress won 2,498 seats and is leading in 72.

The ruling TMC won 6,134 Panchayat samiti seats while leading 61 seats.

BJP has won 939 and is leading in 149 seats, while CPI(M) has won 165 seats and is leading in 14 others and Congress has won in 244 seats and is leading in 7 seats.

Elections were held for 9,728 Panchayat Samiti seats.

TMC has also won all 554 Zila Parishad results declared so far and is leading in 201 others.

The BJP has in contrast won 19 and is leading in 7 seats.

The CPI(M) has won 2 seats and is leading in 2 more seats, while Congress has won 4 and is leading in 10.

In all, there are 928 Zila Parishad seats.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan made 2,715 announcements in the last three years, the state government informed in a written reply to a question by Congress MLA Ramchandra Dangi.

Out of these announcements, 489 were made in six months in 2020 (June-December 2020), a maximum of 880 announcements were made in 2021, 753 announcements were made in 2022, and 592 announcements were made in the first six months of 2023.

Yogi Adityanath's cabinet has  approved two thermal power projects — ‘Obra D’ —- of 800 MW capacity each to be built at the cost of Rs 18,000 crore in the tribal district of Sonbhadra.

The agreement for the two projects was signed by the UP government with National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) during the Global Investors Summit held in Lucknow in February, this year.

As per State Urban Development and Energy Minister AK Sharma, the projects would ease the power scenario in the state a great deal, especially when the consumption of electricity was increasing day by day.

Yet another adult African cheetah has died inside one of the enclosures of Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park (KNP).

The adult South African cheetah named Tejas died in an enclosure, where it was housed with a Namibian female for mating.

While the actual reason behind the cheetah’s death will be ascertained only after the autopsy is over, the wound on the neck suggests that a physical struggle with the Namibian female could have led to the fatality.

This is the fourth death of an adult cheetah at the KNP since the last week of March. Three of the four cheetah cubs born to a Namibian female in March also died.

Milan Kundera, the author of The Unbearable Lightness of Being, has died aged 94.

The Czech writer born in the city of Brno was a novelist, playwright, poet and essayist. He became the most important Czech writer in the second half of the 20th century, reaching out to the whole world.

Kundera migrated to France in 1975, after being ostracised for criticising the 1968 Soviet invasion of the Czech Republic. His citizenship was revoked by the Czech government in 1979 following the release of his book The Book of Laughter and Forgetting in France. 

Sita Dahal, wife of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', passed after suffering from a rare neurological condition for a long time. She was 69.

Sita Dahal married Pushpa Kamal Dahal, better known by his nom de guerre Prachanda ("The Fierce One"), more than half a century ago when both were teenagers. Few details about their lives are on the public record, but Sita was by her husband's side when he launched a decade-long insurgency against the government in 1996.

Sita was serving as an adviser to her husband's Nepal Communist Party (Maoist Center), which entered mainstream parliamentary politics after the insurgency ended in 2006.
