Two booking clerks, Adevabhai Solanki, and Mansukhbhai Topiya, were granted regular bail by the Gujarat high court in relation to the October 30, 2022, Morbi suspension bridge collapse disaster, which resulted in the deaths of 135 people.

Justice Samir Dave ordered the bail. Three security guards who were posted at the bridge on the disaster day had previously been granted bail by the HC. The Ticket Booking clerk defended their innocence in the matter.

Earlier, on June 7, the family of the victims had already protested the bail requests. Advocate Rahul Sharma, who is representing the victims of the bridge collapse told Justice Samir Dave that the clerks "were black marketing these tickets, which resulted in the bridge being overloaded."

However, they acknowledged that there was no reference to black-marketing in the chargesheet during the hearing. It was argued that the accused's involvement went well beyond merely issuing an excessive number of tickets which led to congestion on the bridge.

According to the charge sheet, around 3,165 tickets were sold on the day of the incident. The two ticket clerks Madevbhai Solanki and Mansukhbhai Topiya failed to stop issuing tickets despite being aware that there was an increase in traffic on the bridge, displaying egregious negligence on their part.

Alpesh Gohil, Dilip Gohil, and Mukesh Chauhan, security guards for Oreva Group's Ajanta Manufacturing Pvt Ltd, which managed the bridge, were granted bail by the HC last month.

The case's ten accused, including Oreva Group MD Jaysukh Patel, are charged under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The CBI has formed a 10-member special investigation team (SIT) under a DIG-rank officer to probe six cases related to the Manipur violence referred to it by the state government.

During his visit to the northeastern state, Home Minister Amit Shah announced a CBI probe into six FIRs -- five on alleged criminal conspiracy and one on general conspiracy behind the violence in Manipur.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had dispatched Joint Director Ghanshyam Upadhyay to coordinate with the state officials, and upon his return, the SIT was constituted, they said.

The agency re-registered the six cases referred to it by the state government.

The Special Crime Branch, Kolkata will probe the cases, they said.

Violence broke out in the northeastern state after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts on May 3 to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

So far, nearly 100 people have lost their lives, and over 300 have been injured ever since the ethnic violence broke out over a month ago.

The clashes were preceded by tension over the eviction of Kuki villagers from reserve forest land, which had led to a series of smaller agitations.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and thanked him for his country's "excellent support" during the evacuation of Indians from Sudan in April, while also conveying best wishes for the upcoming Haj pilgrimage.

China, Pakistan and Iran held their first meeting on counter-terrorism and security during which they discussed joint efforts to deal with the "cross-border movement of terrorists" apparently emanating from Taliban-controlled Afghanistan.

The meeting between the senior security officials of the three countries was held on Jun 8 , the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin told media.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is planning to have one million customers active on central bank digital currency (CBDC) or e-rupee by the end of this month. Responding to a media query on the likely launch of CBDC, RBI Deputy Governor T Rabi Sankar said that though there is no specific day for its launch, the Central Bank has plans to have 1 million customers by the end of June.

The RBI launched the pilot for retail digital rupee on December 1. The deputy governor, while addressing the media after the RBI’s monetary policy announcement, said that the central bank plans to make CBDC QR codes interoperable with the popular UPI.
