The BJP on May 8  filed a complaint with the Election Commission against former Congress chief Sonia Gandhi over the statement that the party will not allow anyone to pose a threat to Karnataka's "reputation, sovereignty or integrity" and requested it to issue direction for registration of FIR against her.

The Congress has accused the Election Commission of "bias" over its notice on the party's "corruption rate card" advertisements targeting the BJP government in Karnataka and said its leaders are held to a standard that seems reserved only for the Opposition.

Despite the Congress bringing to the EC's notice on numerous occasions the "brazen and repeated" violations of electoral guidelines by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other BJP leaders, the commission has not issued one notice or condemnation, the Congress said on May 7.

The EC had  issued a notice to the Karnataka Congress over its "corruption rate card" advertisements published in newspapers in the run-up to the May 10 state polls and sought "empirical evidence" to prove its allegations by May 7  evening.

The notice was issued following a complaint lodged by the BJP.

A MiG 21 fighter aircraft of the Indian Air Force (IAF) crashed on a house in the Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan on MAY 8 , leaving three women dead and as many others injured on the ground.

The Suratgarh Air Force station is in Ganganagar district which is close to Hanumangarh.

SP, Hanumangarh, Sudheer Chaudhary said the plane crashed on the house of one Ratti Ram, killing his wife Basho Kaur and two other women identified as Leela Devi and Banto Kaur.

The Nitish Kumar government in Bihar will bring back all students of the state stranded in violence-hit Manipur.

All the students, holed up in their hostels and other places in the restive north-eastern state, will be brought back on May 9  and the expenses of their travel will be borne by the government.

They will be ferried to the airport in Imphal in buses, and flown back to Patna by a special flight.

Tungnath Temple is situated at an altitude of 12800 feet.

Political strategist Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Abhiyan got a shot in the arm with 12 former Indian Police Service (IPS) officers inducted in the campaign on May 7 . The development comes within a week after six retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers joined his ‘padyatra’ after formally being inducted as members of Jan Suraaj.

The officers who were inducted as members at a function held in Patna had served in different capacities like SP, DIG, IG and DGP. The IPS officers include S K Paswan, former DGP of Chhattisgarh and resident of Vaishali in Bihar, R K Mishra, former DGP, Bihar, Jitendra Kumar Mishra, Ashok Kumar Singh and Umesh Singh, all retired IGs; K B Singh, Anil Kumar Singh and Shiva Kumar Jha, all retired DIGs of Bihar.Four other retired IPS officers, including C P Kiran, Mohammad Rahman Momin, Shankar Jha and Dilip Mishra, who had earlier served as SPs and DIGs, also joined PK’s Jan Suraaj Abhiyan.

Deepak Joshi, the son of former Madhya Pradesh CM Kailash Chandra Joshi,  joined the opposition Congress in Bhopal on May 6 , a day after ending his years of association with the BJP.

Joshi was a minister of school and technical education minister in the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan government between 2013 and 2018. He has been a three-time BJP MLA.
