Petroleum and oil marketing companies have slashed the price of Commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 171.50 with immediate effect.

After the move, the latest retail price of a 19 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi now stands at Rs 1,856.50.

Last month, too, their prices were reduced by Rs 91.50 per unit, standing at Rs 2,028 per unit.

Petroleum and oil marketing companies had on March 1 this year hiked the prices of commercial LPG cylinders by Rs 350.50 per unit and domestic LPG cylinders by Rs 50 per unit.

The prices of the commercial cylinders were reduced the last time in September 1 last year by Rs 91.50.

On August 1, 2022, too, the prices of commercial LPG cylinders were reduced by Rs 36. Prior to that, on July 6, rates for the 19-kilogram commercial cylinder were cut by Rs 8.5 per unit. 

The government has appointed Siddhartha Mohanty as Chairman of Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) until June next year. He will serve as chief executive officer and managing director until June 2025.

Mohanty, who is one of four MDs at LIC, was already named as chairman in March for three months. The Financial Services Institutions Bureau (FSIB), the headhunter for directors of state-owned banks and financial institutions, in March this year selected Mohanty to head the insurance behemoth.

As per the guidelines, the chairman is selected from the four managing directors of the company. The decision regarding the appointment of Mohanty as the LIC chairman was taken by the Appointments Committee of Cabinet) Mohanty, who became LIC’s MD in February 2021, began his career at LIC as a direct recruit officer in 1985.

Hours after the Delhi police informed the Supreme Court that an FIR (First Information Reports) will be registered against the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, two FIRs were registered against the BJP leader in connection with sexual harassment allegation made against him by women wrestlers.

Two FIRs have been registered at the Connaught Place police station on the complaints lodged by female wrestlers.

The first FIR pertains to allegations levelled by a minor that has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act along with relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code concerning outraging modesty.

The second FIR has been registered for carrying out comprehensive investigations into the complaints by adult complainants under relevant IPC sections pertaining to outraging of modesty.

The FIRs were filed hours after Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for Delhi Police, told a Supreme Court bench comprising Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud and Justice P S Narasimha that a case will be registered on Apr 28 .

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on  Apr 30 said one should worship the good qualities in others, no matter they are compatriots or opponents, and learn from them.

In the 100th episode of video-added radio broadcast ‘Mann Ki Baat’, the PM, quoting his mentor Laxmanrao Inamdar, said: “We should worship the qualities of others, no matter who is face to face with you, be it your compatriot, be it your opponent, we should try to know about their good qualities and learn from them.”

Inamdar, one of the early RSS functionaries in Gujarat, used to guide Modi in early days of his life.

Describing the ‘Mann ki Baat’ as a new inseparable bonding with the people, the prime minister said the programme has never let him be away from the people.

The 100th episode of the programme was broadcast live at the UN headquarters in New York besides 350 other venues in 20  countries. Senior BJP leaders, including Union ministers, listened to Mann ki Baat at different places as the ruling party went all out to make the 100th episode a mega exercise in public connect.

Poland on Apr 28  said it had seized a high school building near Moscow's embassy in Warsaw meant for the children of diplomats, a move the Russian envoy called "illegal".

The Supreme Court on Apr 28  questioned the UP government while it was considering a plea seeking the constitution of an independent committee to inquire into the murder of gangster Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashrat on April 15.

Atiq Ahmed and his brother Ashrat were killed dead at point-blank range by three men posing as journalists in the middle of a media interaction. They were shot dead while they were being escorted by police personnel to a medical college in Prayagraj for a checkup.

The bench of Justices SR Bhat and Dipankar Datta sought a comprehensive status report from the state government with regards to the steps taken to enquire into the deaths which occurred Atiq and his brother on April 15, 2023, and report on the encounter killing of son Asad on April 14, 2023, the court also asked as to how did the shooters know Ahmad and his brother would be taken to the hospital?
