Pakistan has cried foul over India’s decision to host a G20 meeting in Jammu and Kashmir.

In a statement, Pakistan’s ministry of foreign affairs said, "Pakistan expresses its strong indignation over India’s decision to hold the G-20 Tourism Working Group meeting in Srinagar on 22-24 May 2023."

The meeting comes as India has taken up the G20 Presidency this year and this will be the first international event to be held in Srinagar since the abrogation of Article 370.

Political and diplomatic ties between India and Pakistan have been downgraded since the revocation of Article 370 in Kashmir. On various UN platforms, Pakistan tries to rake up the Kashmir issue and India always gives a befitting rebuttal.

Trinamool Congress's (TMC) Rajya Sabha member and former Goa chief minister Luizinho Faleiro tendered his resignation from the Upper House of Parliament and said he wants to free himself from this responsibility to work as a foot soldier again in the interest of Goa.

Talking to PTI, 71-year-old Faleiro said he will soon resign from the TMC also.

He submitted his resignation from the Rajya Sabha to its Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar.

Long being sidelined from the party affairs in Goa, Faleiro was being nudged by the TMC leadership to resign from the Rajya Sabha.

The Mamata Banerjee-led TMC has been upset with Faleiro after he refused to contest the 2022 Assembly election from Fatorda against Goa Forward Party's Vijai Sardesai.

When the TMC made a much-hyped foray in Goa ahead of the 2022 state Assembly polls, it asked Rajya Sabha MP Arpita Ghosh, who had a term till 2026, to quit and sent Faleiro to the Upper House in 2021.

The TMC had failed to win a single seat in the 40-member Goa Assembly.

Radical preacher Amritpal Singh's close aide Papalpreet Singh was brought and lodged in the central jail.

Papalpreet Singh, who is considered to be Amritpal's mentor, was nabbed in Amritsar district on April 10  and booked under the National Security Act.

He was brought from Delhi by a Punjab police team and escorted to the Dibrugarh central jail from the airport amidst tight security.

Meanwhile, a team of three lawyers from Punjab - Bhagwant Singh Siyalka, Mandeep Singh Siddhu and Rohit Sharma met the eight members of the outfit 'Waris Punjab De' already in the jail.

Besides, Papalpreet and Harjit Singh, the other members of the outfit lodged in the jail since last March are Daljeet Kalsi, Basant Singh, Gurmeet Singh Bhukanwala, Bhagwant Singh alias 'Pradhan Mantri' Bajeka, Kulwant Singh Dhaliwal and Gurinder Pal Singh.

The Punjab Police had recently launched a massive crackdown in the northern state, arresting several supporters of Amritpal Singh, the chief of the pro-Khalistan outfit 'Waris Punjab De'.

The crackdown on the outfit began weeks after Amritpal and his supporters stormed the Ajnala police station near Amritsar to secure the release of an arrested associate.

Amritpal and his associates have been booked in several criminal cases related to spreading disharmony among classes, attempting to murder, attacking police personnel and creating obstructions in the lawful discharge of duty by public servants.

India is a global player and also a Vishwa guru, said the Ukrainian deputy minister of foreign affairs, Emine Dzheppar, who hoped the Ukraine-Russia war needs to be questioned for the sake of justice  “Nearly 10,000 Ukrainans have died as a result of this war. Prime Minister Modi had rightly said in Samarkand that this is not an era for war. Like India, Ukraine too has never attacked another country. With India being at the helm of G20, we hope India will be involved and engaged in global issues and challenges,’’ Minister Dzheppar added.

The minister has a strong India connection as she considers Sri Satya Sai Baba her beloved guru. She is also hoping that India will provide Ukraine with humanitarian aid and also help in the reconstruction work across the country. This is the first visit of a Ukrainian minister to India since the outbreak of the conflict in February last year.

The Ukrainian government has requested aid in pharmaceuticals, medical equipment, energy equipment which will help repair infrastructure damaged during the ongoing conflict. Meanwhile, during her remaining visit, she will be meeting Minister of State for External Affairs Meenakshi Lekhi and Deputy National Security Advisor Vikram Misri.

The Election Commission of India  has recognised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as a national party, while it stripped the Trinamool Congress, Nationalist Congress Party and the Communist Party of India of the coveted tag.

The decision was taken following the review of the parties’ performances in various elections held since 2014. With this, India now has six national parties — BJP, Congress, BSP, CPM, NPP and AAP.

The election body said the AAP earned the national party status thanks to its performance in Delhi, Goa, Punjab and Gujarat elections. It clarified that NCP and Trinamool would be recognised as state parties in Nagaland and Meghalaya, respectively, based on their performance in the assembly elections. 

The Rajasthan government has declared April 11, the birth anniversary of social reformer Jyotiba Phule, a public holiday.

With this, the state has 30 public holidays and 20 optional holidays.

Till now, Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Jayanti was an optional holiday in the state
