In connection with Bhojpuri actress Akanksha Dubey suicide case, her mother Madhu Dubey submitted a police complaint leading to the registration of an FIR against Bhojpuri singer Samar Singh and his brother Sanjay Singh under section 306 (abetment of suicide) with Sarnath police station on Mar 27.

The 25-yer-old actress was found hanging from the ceiling in a hotel room in Sarnath area of Varanasi on Mar 26 .

Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui has filed a defamation suit in the Bombay High Court seeking Rs 100 crore damages from his former wife Aaliya alias Zainab Siddiqui and his brother Shamasuddin Siddiqui accusing them of making defamatory and false statements against him.

The suit is likely to be heard on March 30 by a single bench of Justice Riyaz Chagla.

The actor, embroiled in a matrimonial dispute with his former wife, requested the HC to permanently restrain Aaliya and his brother from making any statements or remarks that would defame him.

He also sought a written apology from his former wife and brother.

Bansuri Swaraj, the daughter of former minister of external affairs Sushma Swaraj made her political debut as she was appointed as co-convenor of the legal cell of Delhi unit of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Bansuri, who has more than 15 years legal experience currently practices law in the Supreme court.

In addition to maintaining her private practice, Bansuri Swaraj has been appointed as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Haryana.

Tribals from 30 districts of Assam organised a massive rally in Guwahati on Mar 26 , asking the government to stop “unethical religious conversions”. Wearing traditional attires and carrying folk musical instruments, they congregated at the Khanapara field under the banner of Janajati Dharma Sanskriti Suraksha Manch, which is an RSS affiliate. 

Amid claims about efforts being made to increase the representation of officers belonging to SC and ST communities in all-India civil services, only 166 candidates from Schedule Tribes, 340 from Schedule Caste and 695 from OBCs have been recruited to India’s three prominent categories of civil services in five years.

Sharing details of the appointments made to all-India services, such as the IAS, IPS and Indian Forest Service, the government said that 2,163 recruitments have been made since 2018 to 2022 for IAS. Among them, 68 candidates belonging to ST and 140 to SCs have been recruited for IAS.

The new NCERT textbooks, revised in accordance with the new National Education Policy (NEP), are likely to be introduced in schools from the 2024-25 academic session. The textbooks will be developed as per the National Curriculum Framework (NCF).

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Mar 27 held a high-level meeting to discuss a faster roll-out of textbooks based on NEP 2020. The textbooks will be developed in 22 languages included in

the VIIIth schedule of the Constitution. This will be in consonance with the NEP perspective of imparting multilingual education.

One of the eight Namibian Cheetahs — released by PM Narendra Modi into the Kuno National Park (KNP) in Madhya Pradesh on his 72nd birthday in 2022 — died due to kidney infection on Mar 27.

The female Cheetah, named Sasha, had been unwell since January 22 this year. The government said that Sasha had Kidney issues before coming to India. According to Sasha's medical history, the last blood test done on August 15, 2022, showed that her creatinine level was more than 400.

Of the seven remaining cheetahs at Kuno, four were already left in jungles while three are in still enclosures. India brought another 12 cheetahs from South Africa in February this year. They all are still in quarantine.

Lebanon's caretaker government moved Mar 27 to clear up widespread confusion over daylight saving that left the crisis-hit country with two time zones and growing concerns over sectarian divisions.

Daylight saving time will now start "at midnight on Mar 29  to Mar 30", caretaker prime minister Najib Mikati said, noting the need for "a period of 48 hours to fix technical issues".

Lebanon had been scheduled to roll clocks forward by one hour last weekend, but authorities then announced in a surprise move late last week that the switch would be delayed by about a month.

The 11th-hour move, meant to support Muslims during the fasting month of Ramadan, was promptly rejected by the Maronite Church as well as some broadcasters, schools, businesses and even several politicians.
