A woman stripped of her British citizenship after travelling to Syria as a teenager to marry an Islamic State group fighter on  Feb 22 lost her legal battle to reverse the decision.

The ruling from Judge Robert Jay means that Shamima Begum, 23, cannot return to the UK from her current home in a refugee camp in northern Syria.

While the court determined the decision was for the government to make, it also said that some of Begum's arguments had merit.

Begum was aged 15 when she left her east London home for Syria with two school friends in 2015. While there, she married an IS fighter and had three children, none of whom survived.

In February 2019, she said she was left stateless when Britain's then-interior minister Sajid Javid revoked her British citizenship on national security grounds after she was found in the Syrian camp.

A UK tribunal ruled in 2020 that she was not stateless because she was "a citizen of Bangladesh by descent" when the decision was made, by virtue of her Bangladeshi mother.

The UK Supreme Court last year refused Begum permission to enter the UK to fight her citizenship case. She subsequently took her case to the Special Immigration Appeals Commission (SIAC), which ruled on Feb 22 .

The inaugural Business Forum of I2U2 nations - India, Israel, the UAE and the USA - was held in Abu Dhabi on feb 23, making it the first event of this kind since the launch of the I2U2 group since its leaders' summit in July 2022.

The Forum brought together senior private and public sector representatives from the member nations with discussions held on investment opportunities to address issues related to the management of the energy crisis and food insecurity.

The I2U2 partnership is a grouping focused on driving tangible economic cooperation between its members across a range of sectors, including food security, water, energy, space, transportation, health, and technology.

It aims to mobilize private sector capital and expertise to, among other objectives, help modernize infrastructure, decarbonize industries, improve public health, and promote the development of green technologies.

Hosted by UAE Minister of State Ahmed bin Ali Al Sayegh, the forum was attended by Director General of Israel's Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ronen Levi and, India's Economic Relations Secretary Dammu Ravi, while the US delegation was led by the Under Secretary of State for Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment Jose W Fernandez.

Air India is planning to hire over 4,200 cabin crew trainees and 900 pilots this calendar year as the Tata Group-owned airline is eying to expand aggressively in domestic as well as in international market. Earlier this month, Air India had announced the purchase of 470 aircraft from Boeing and Airbus with an option to buy 370 more, to support its growth plans. The carrier had also announced plans to lease 36 aircraft, of which two B 777-200 LR have joined the fleet.

The fresh hiring announcement comes after the airline claims to have hired over 1,900 cabin crew between May 2022 and February 2023. Currently, Air India has 115 aircraft in its fleet

After reporting losses for three straight quarters, private airline SpiceJet on  Feb 24 reported a net profit of Rs 107 crore (Rs 221 crore excluding forex adjustment) for the quarter ending December 31, 2022, as compared to a net profit of Rs 23.28 Crore (Rs 20 crore excluding forex adjustment) in the same quarter last fiscal.

Oil and natural gas producer ONGC has said it will invest over $2 billion in drilling 103 wells on its main gas-bearing asset in the Arabia Sea as it aims to add 100 million tonnes to production.

The wells will tap smaller and hereto untapped reservoirs and help raise output.

Leading bourse NSE has said it has received final approval from markets regulator Sebi to set up a Social Stock Exchange (SSE) as a separate segment on its platform.

The final clearance was received on February 22, the National Stock Exchange (NSE).

The Social Stock Exchange segment will provide a new avenue for social enterprises to finance social initiatives, provide them visibility and bring in increased transparency in fund mobilisation and utilisation by social enterprises.

Under the rules, any social enterprise, Non-Profit Organization (NPOs) or For-Profit Social Enterprise (FPE), that establishes its primacy of social intent can get listed in the SSE segment.

International cricketer Deepak Chahar has turned entrepreneur with his fantasy gaming venture Trade Fantasy Game founded with his wife Jaya Chahar.

The venture platform will be managed by JCDC Sports which aims to acquire 10 lakh users by financial year 2024.

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) earned 6.3 billion rupee in the year 2022, the sports body's highest ever annual net income, according to national board.

"The latest growth net income was mainly generated from four revenue segments which are international cricket, domestic cricket, sponsorship contracts and ICC annual member disbursements," the SLC said in a release.

It was also announced on that Sports Minister Roshan Ranasinghe has appointed a 10-member committee to draft a new constitution for SLC.

The panel headed by the retired Supreme Court judge KT Chithrasiri has several legal luminaries and former national cricketers including Charith Senanayake and Farveez Mahroof.
