Katerina Siniakova and Barbora Krejcikova have extended their Grand Slam tournament winning streak to 24 matches with a 6-4, 6-3 win over Japan's Shuko Aoyama and Ena Shibahara to win the Australian Open women's doubles title.

It was the seventh Grand Slam doubles title by the Czech pair, who broke their Japanese opponents' serve in each of the first games of the sets.

The iconic ‘Mughal Gardens’ in Rashtrapati Bhavan has been renamed as ‘Amrit Udyan’, the President House announced on Jan 29 . Spreading over 15 acres, the lawns boast of more than 150 rose varieties besides several seasonal and winter flowering plants including tulips, Asiatic lilies, daffodils, and hyacinth. This year, visitors will see specially cultivated tulips of 12 unique varieties, which are expected to bloom in phases.

Edwin Lutyens, the architect of New Delhi, designed the Mughal Gardens and William R Mostoe, who was the coadjutor and son of a professional gardener developed it. The design was inspired by Char Bagh pattern, the four-part garden laid out with axial paths that intersect at the centre, introduced to India by the Mughals. Hence, it was being called Mughal Gardens.

Costa Rica has been pursuing India’s largest port developer and operator, the Adani Group, to build a dry canal in their country.

They have been trying to pursue Adani for over a year now and officials from the Costa Rica government have been in touch with the group. Rabi Lamichhane resigned as the Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister of Nepal on  Jan 27 after the Supreme Court found him guilty of not producing a valid citizenship certificate to contest the parliamentary election.

Lamichhane, 48, handed over his resignation to Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal "Prachanda".

Lamichhane was appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister on December 25. The Supreme Court annulled Lamichhane's status as a lawmaker, citing that the citizenship certificate he produced to contest the parliamentary election was invalid.

Lamichhane returned to Nepal as a US citizen in 2014 after spending years in America and acquired Nepali passport a year later.

As the court invalidated his citizenship certificate, he can't even be considered a Nepali citizen for now, making him ineligible to become a minister and party chief.

As per Nepalese law, any national who either decides to quit the citizenship or acquires foreign citizenship will automatically lose his Nepali citizenship.

The Centre on Jan 27 told the Supreme Court that there are 2,967 tigers in the country spread across 53 tiger reserves, according to a 2018 report.

The apex court was hearing a petition filed by Advocate Anupam Tripathi in 2017 seeking to save endangered tigers whose numbers are dwindling across the country.

The top court in 2017 had issued notice to the Ministry of Environment, the National Board for Wildlife and the National Tiger Conservation Authority on the plea which had also sought relocation of people living near tiger reserves.

The petition had said tigers were being killed either by poisoning by locals or the authorities, shooting by forest guards or by poaching.
