India has categorically denied reports about it sending troops to Sri Lanka.

Earlier, senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said in a tweet that India should send the military to Sri Lanka if Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa requests any such assistance.

Indian High Commission in Colombo, clarifying the country stand over the issue, said that India stands with the people of Sri Lanka.

 The father of an al-Qaeda operative convicted of conspiring to bomb the New York subway in 2009 has been deported from the US to Afghanistan.

Mohammed Wali Zazi, 66, was convicted of visa fraud, obstruction of justice and conspiracy to obstruct justice in February 2012. The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement's (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) Denver Field Office removed Zazi from the country on June 13 to Afghanistan via commercial air flights.

Zazi's son, Najibullah Zazi, is a member of al-Qaeda and was convicted of conspiring to bomb the New York subway in 2009. Zazi entered the US in August 1990 and became a naturalised citizen in October 2007.

After a US district judge for the eastern district of New York had convicted him in February 2012, he was sentenced to 54 months in federal prison. Zazi's naturalisation was revoked in November 2018 by the US magistrate judge in the United States District Court for the District of Colorado, and his Certificate of Naturalisation was cancelled.

He was issued a Notice to Appear in July 2019 in Centennial, Colorado. The immigration judge in Denver denied any relief to Zazi and ordered him removed to Afghanistan in February this year.

ERO escorted Zazi on his removal from the US, and he arrived in Kabul, Afghanistan, via the Hamid Karzai International Airport.

Boosted by a new mandate in weekend elections, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida met on july 11  with the U.S.'s top diplomat, who delivered condolences over the death of influential former leader Shinzo Abe and reassurances of a strong bilateral alliance.

Kishida's governing Liberal Democratic Party and its junior coalition partner Komeito secured a solid majority in elections for parliament's upper, less powerful, chamber in a vote on july 10  that was imbued with meaning after Abe was assassinated while campaigning on july 8 .

The vote gave the LDP-led coalition 146 seats in the 248-seat chamber — far beyond the majority — and means Kishida stands to rule without interruption until a scheduled election in 2025.

State-owned Bank of Baroda has raised the marginal cost of the funds-based lending rate by up to 0.15 per cent for the select tenor of loans with effect from July 12.

The bank has approved the revision in Marginal Cost of Funds based Lending Rate (MCLR) with effect from July 12, 2022.

The one-year MCLR, the benchmark for most consumer loans such as auto, home, and personal loans, has been revised upwards to 7.65 per cent from the existing 7.50 per cent.

The three-month and six-month tenor loans will have new MCLRs at 7.35 per cent and 7.45 per cent, respectively, up by 0.10 per cent each.

Three-time defending champion Novak Djokovic defeated Nick Kyrgios in the final, 4–6, 6–3, 6–4, 7–6(7–3) to win the gentlemen's singles tennis title at the 2022 Wimbledon championships. It was his seventh Wimbledon title and 21st major singles title overall. Djokovic became the fifth man in the Open Era (after Björn Borg, Pete Sampras, Roger Federer, and Rafael Nadal) to record a streak of at least four consecutive titles at one major. By reaching his 32nd men's singles major final, he surpassed the all-time record he had jointly held with Roger Federer. Djokovic also became the first player (male or female) to win 80 matches at all four majors with his first-round win over Kwon Soon-woo. Notably, due to no ranking points being awarded for this year's tournament in response to its banning Russian and Belarusian players, Djokovic dropped out of the top five in rankings after the tournament.

Nick Kyrgios became the first unseeded man to reach a major final since Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the 2008 Australian Open, the first Australian man to reach a major final since Lleyton Hewitt at the 2005 Australian Open, and the first unseeded or Australian man to reach the Wimbledon final since Mark Philippoussis in 2003.

The International Cricket Council (ICC) on july 12  announced the winners of the ICC Player of the Month awards for June 2022 as England's all-conquering Jonny Bairstow and South Africa's batting force Marizanne Kapp.

Bairstow had memorable performances in his side's 3-0 ICC World Test Championship (WTC) series victory against reigning champions New Zealand. Despite a quiet start at Lord's, Bairstow produced explosive hitting to steal victory against the odds in the second Test, smashing the second-fastest century ever registered by an English batter in the longest format.

His exploits extended to the final match of the series, sealing the whitewash in equally explosive fashion with scores of 162 and 71 not out, which has since moved him up the ICC Test Batter Rankings.

Bairstow was voted the Men's Player of the Month ahead of teammate Joe Root and Daryl Mitchell of New Zealand. His remarkable series of scores has continued into July, where back-to-back centuries in his side's Test victory against India saw them home in a record-breaking run chase. Bairstow's continued dominance already lines him up as a potential contender for the ICC Men's Player of the Month award for July.

South Africa's Kapp was selected the ICC Women's Player of the Month, thanks to her solid and fierce resistance in the face of a hostile England bowling attack in the Test match at Taunton which secured her side a valuable draw.

In what was her first Test match since 2014, Kapp came in with her side back to the wall against at 45 for four and produced a batting masterclass. She demonstrated her full repertoire of classy stroke-play on the way to scoring a record of 150. Her resistance salvaged the situation in the first innings with team making 284 and while England set an imposing score in response. Kapp once again starred for her team with a score of 43 not out before rain curtailed play on the final day.
