Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh now to be 'hard areas' for IAS, IPS officers' postings

The Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh will now be considered as "hard areas" for postings of AGMUT cadre IAS and IPS officers.

According to the notification issued January 18, a decision has been taken by the Central government to this effect and the guidelines for the transfer and posting of IAS, and IPS officers of the joint cadre of Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram, and Union Territory (AGMUT) cadre have also been modified accordingly.

The erstwhile J&K cadre was merged with AGMUT in 2021 after Jammu and Kashmir was bifurcated into the two Union Territories on August 5, 2019.

Postings of IAS, and IPS officers of the cadre are divided into "regular" and "hard" areas postings. Postings in Delhi, Chandigarh, Goa, Puducherry, and Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu will be considered as "regular areas" or Category A, while postings in Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Jammu and Kashmir, and Ladakh will be considered as "hard areas" or Category B.

Drug firm Novo Nordisk India has said it has launched a first of its kind diabetes treatment medication in the country. The company said it has introduced the world's first and only oral semaglutide, a game-changer in diabetes management.

Semaglutide, a GLP-1 receptor analogue (GLP-1 RA) - one of the drug classes to treat diabetes, till now was available only in the form of injections and this is the first time such medication has been developed in an oral form.

The product's launch coincides with the company's hundred-year centenary of insulin discovery that changed the lives of people with diabetes.

Oral semaglutide is a co-formulation of GLP-1RA semaglutide with an absorption enhancer SNAC, which protects semaglutide from undergoing degradation in the stomach like other peptides and enhances its absorption.

Cooperation between India and Mauritius, including in maritime security, has translated the vision of SAGAR - Security and Growth for All in the Region - into action, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said .

Modi made these remarks after he along with his Mauritian counterpart Pravind Jugnauth jointly inaugurated India-assisted social housing units project in Mauritius virtually.

They also launched the Civil Service College and the 8MW Solar PV Farm projects in Mauritius that are being undertaken under India's development support.

An agreement on extending a USD 190 million Line of Credit from India to Mauritius for the Metro Express Project and other infrastructure projects, and an MoU on the implementation of small development projects were also exchanged during the event.

In his remarks, Modi recalled that it was in Mauritius, during his 2015 visit, that he had outlined India's maritime cooperation vision of SAGAR - 'Security and Growth for All in the Region'.

He underlined that India and Mauritius are united by history, ancestry, culture, language and the shared waters of the Indian Ocean.

Jagnauth said that in order to pay gratitude for India's support to the metro express project, his government has decided to name one of the major metro stations as 'Mahatma Gandhi' station.

Barbados PM Mia Mottley appears to have swept general elections

The party of Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Mottley appeared to swept every legislative seat in the first elections the island nation has held as a republic since casting off the British monarchy, according to preliminary results released Jan 20 .

Mottley’s Barbados Labor Party seemed to have secured all 30 seats in the House of Assembly, the lower house of the island’s Parliament, which would give the island's first female leader a second term as prime minister. A majority of 16 seats was required for a win.

Mottley, who pledged to focus on issues including financial security, nutrition, renewable energy projects and housing, said the island faces serious challenges in the next 10 to 15 years.

Mottley’s main opponent, Verla De Peiza of the Democratic Labor Party, conceded defeat.

Mottley was criticized for calling a snap general election shortly after Barbados cut ties with Queen Elizabeth II in November and ceased to be a constitutional monarchy. The next elections had been scheduled for mid-2023.
