·       Mumbai-born left-arm spinner Ajaz Patel on Dec 4  entered the record books as he became only the third bowler in the 144-year-old history of Test cricket to take all 10 wickets in an innings on the second day of the second match against India  in Mumbai

·       Patel, who had migrated to New Zealand with his parents back in 1996, ended the Indian innings with figures of 47.5-12-119-10 to equal England great Jim Laker and Indian legend Anil Kumble, who had achieved the rarest of rare feat in Test cricket.

·       The 33-year-old Patel, who is playing in his 11th Test, had only two five wicket hauls and a best match haul of seven wickets before Dec 4  feat. He bowled four separate spells of 24-10-57-4, 5-0-16-0, 6-0-16-2, 12.5-2-30-4 and got his 10th and final wicket in the form of Mohammed Siraj, who tried a slog and was caught by another player of Indian origin Rachin Ravindra.

·      Patel got a standing ovation from the Indian team as the umpires handed him the coveted ball while leading his team off the field. Incidentally, Patel is the second player after Douglas Jardine, who has played against India in his city of birth.

·       Dragflicker Gurjit Kaur scored five goals as the Indian women's hockey team thrashed Thailand 13-0 in its first game at the Asian Champions Trophy in Donghae (South Korea )  on Dec 5.

·       This was the Indian team's first match since the historic fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics.

·       In the absence of Captain Rani, who has been rested from the tournament, India were led by veteran goalkeeper Savita.

·       Canada defeated Chile 2-1 in a classification match to finish 13th at the FIH Junior Men's Hockey World Cup in Bhubaneswar .

·       In the other classification match , Harendra Singh-coached USA beat Egypt 3-0 via a penalty shoot-out to avoid the wooden spoon and end their campaign on the 15th spot.

·       In a big relief to the scores of match officials and support staff who had to leave after reaching 60, the BCCI has  increased their retirement age limit by five years. The BCCI took this decision during its Annual General Meeting (AGM) .

·       At the AGM, many proposals have been passed for the development of cricket in northeastern states, Puducherry, Bihar and Uttarakhand.

·      Among other decisions, the Board has inducted Brijesh Patel and MKJ Majumdar in the IPL Governing Council. The BCCI also announced the formation of the Tours, Fixtures and Technical Committee, Umpires Committee and Differently Abled Cricket Committee.

·       Eileen Ash, the oldest-ever Test cricketer, has died at the age of 110, the England and Wales Cricket Board announced .

·       Ash, a right-arm seam bowler, who made her Test debut against Australia in 1937, represented England seven times either side of World War II, retiring in 1949.

·       She worked with British intelligence during the war and played golf until the age of 98.

·       Ash was honoured by being chosen to ring the bell at Lord's before England Women's victory in the 2017 World Cup final.

·       Indian shuttler PV Sindhu settled for a silver medal after going down meekly to South Korea's An Seyoung 16-21 12-21 in the summit clash of the BWF World Tour Finals  in Bali on Dec 5 .

·       Seyoung had come into the season-ending tournament with back-to-back titles in the Indonesia Masters and Indonesia Open and had also beaten Sindhu in the quarterfinals of the Denmark Open in October.

·       This was Sindhu's third final appearance in the tournament.

·       She had won the title in 2018 to become the only Indian to achieve the feat.

·       On the martyrdom anniversary of tribal hero Tantya Bheel’s on  December 4, 2021, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan announced the immediate implementation of the Panchayats (Extension to Scheduled Areas) Act in the central Indian state.

·      Addressing the concluding programme of the Krantisurya Jannayak Gaurav Yatra to mark the Jannayak Tantya Bheel’s Balidan Diwas (martyrdom day) in Indore, the CM read out the gazette notification announcing the implementation of the PESA Act with immediate effect.

·       The PESA Act was enacted by Parliament to ensure self governance to people living in the Scheduled Areas of the country.

·       Chouhan also announced revoking minor criminal cases registered against tribals across the state.

·       Further, he informed the gathering about the host of tribal welfare schemes ushered by the state government, including the Akanksha Yojana to provide coaching facilities to tribal students to help them in pursuing courses like engineering, medicine, law among others. He also informed that due to the thrust provided by this scheme, 740 tribal students have cracked the prestigious JEE and NEET examinations.

·       Known as ‘Robin Hood of tribals’, Tantya Bheel was hanged by the British on December 4, 1889, in Jabalpur.

·       The Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Dec 4 announced development projects worth Rs 18,000 crore in election-bound Uttarakhand before addressing a rally at the Parade Ground in Dehradun  to kickstart the BJP's campaign for the state assembly polls.

·       He laid the foundation stones of 11 projects worth Rs 15,728 crore and inaugurated seven projects worth Rs 2,573 crore after inspecting their models on display at the rally venue.

·       The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway or economic corridor which will reduce the distance between the two cities from 248 km at present to 180 km, and infrastructure development projects for Badrinath which are part of the masterplan for the redevelopment of the Himalayan temple, were among the major projects whose foundation stones were laid by the prime minister.

·      The 120 mw Vyasi hydro-electricity project, a 38-km long stretch between Devprayag and Shrikot on NH-58, and a widened 33 km stretch between Brahmapuri and Kaudiyala on Rishikesh-Badrinath national highway, which are both part of the all-weather road project, were among the other crucial projects inaugurated by Modi.
