That drought will be broken at 4.00 PM on Aug 3  when South Korea face Japan in the opening match of the seventh edition of the Asian Champions Trophy. 

Dani Alves denied wrongdoing after being indicted by a judge in a sexual assault case in Spain.

The Brazilian soccer star told the judge in a Barcelona court that he was not in agreement with the findings of the investigation into allegations that he sexually assaulted a woman at a nightclub in Barcelona on Dec. 30.

Alves was indicted after being formally informed by the judge of her findings. Prosecutors will now specify the charges against him. A trial date will be set for later this year or early in 2024.

Alves was also ordered to set aside 150,000 euros ($164,000) to pay his alleged victim if he is eventually found guilty and ordered to pay damages.

Centre’s telemedicine application eSanjeevani, which provides doctor-to-doctor and patient-to-doctor consultations, has completed 14,17,81,384 teleconsultations till July 26, Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Rajya Sabha.

With an aim to support the effective implementation of digital health initiatives including telemedicine services across the country, the Union Health Ministry provides financial assistance to all states/UTs under National Health Mission for strengthening health IT infrastructure and internet connectivity.

The government has also taken initiatives such as short videos, brochures and pamphlets, including in local languages through social media platforms to disseminate information about telemedicine services and to create awareness among the masses in rural areas.

The government has so far recovered Rs 15,113 crores from people accused under the Fugitive Economic Offenders Act, including Vijay Mallya and Nirav Modi, and has given the money to public sector banks, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told the Rajya Sabha.

No details of the exact amounts recovered from each of the accused were shared.

A Railway Protection Force jawan (RPF), who on Jul 31  shot dead four persons across nine carriages on a running express train from Jaipur to Mumbai, was remanded to police custody till August 7.

Among those killed were an assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Tikaram Meena and three passengers, all Muslim men.

Two of the deceased passengers have been identified as Abdul Kadarbhai Mohammed Hussain Bhanpurwala (48), a resident of Nalasopara in Palghar, Asgar Abbas Sheikh (48), a resident of Madhubani in Bihar, and Sadar Mohammed Hussain.

RPF Constable Chetan Kumar Choudhary first shot dead ASI Tikaram Meena in coach B-5. He then shot and killed Abdul Kaderbhai Bhanpurwala, who was travelling in the same coach.

Choudhary then walked across four coaches until he came across a passenger in the pantry car, identified as Sadar Mohammed Hussain, and shot him dead.

Choudhary next walked across two other coaches before shooting dead his third victim, Asghar Abbas Shaikh, in coach S-6.

Reports said that the deceased passengers sported beards and looked identifiably Muslim.

The Railway Board has set up a five-member committee to conduct a 'comprehensive inquiry' into the incident.

The probe committee comprises the principal chief security commissioners of the Western Railway and the Central Railway, the principal chief commercial manager of the North Western Railway, the principal chief medical director of the North Central Railway, and the principal chief personnel officer of the West Central Railway.

Two members of Rashtriya Bajrang Dal were arrested in a case related to organising an arms training camp in the Darrang district of Assam.

Darrang Superintendent of Police Prakash Sonowal told PTI that two members of the outfit -- Bijoy Ghosh and Gopal Boro -- have been arrested for organising the camp at the premises of Maharishi Vidya Mandir school in Mangaldoi.

Rajya Sabha has passed a bill that exempts land within 100 km of the country's borders from the purview of conservation laws and permits the setting up of zoos, safaris and eco-tourism facilities in forest areas.

The Upper House passed the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023 after a brief debate, though the opposition had walked out over the ethnic violence in Manipur.

The Bill was passed by Lok Sabha on July 26.
