Uday Kotak, managing director and chief executive officer of Kotak Mahindra Bank will continue as a non-executive board member and strategic shareholder after he steps down from the whole-time role. The veteran banker, who launched Kotak Mahindra Finance with three people and a 300 square feet office in 1985, is set to retire as MD & CEO of the bank in December 2023. Kotak Mahindra Bank has created value for stakeholders and provided 100,000 direct jobs and a multiple of that in indirect jobs. Also, an investor who invested Rs 10,000 with us in 1985 would be worth Rs 300 crore today.

India head coach Igor Stimac on Jul 17  sought Prime Minister Narendra Modi's intervention for the national football team's participation at the upcoming Asian Games despite not meeting the selection criteria.

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) had planned that Stimac would take an Under-23 side to the Asian Games in Hangzhou event, starting from September 23.

However, since the Indian football team does not meet the Sports Ministry's criteria of being ranked among the top-8 sides, it is set to miss the continental event.

India is currently ranked 18th among countries under the Asian Football Confederation.

Marketa Vondrousova became the lowest-ranked and first unseeded woman to win Wimbledon, defeating 2022 runner-up Ons Jabeur 6-4, 6-4 on Jul 15.

Vondrousova is a 24-year-old left-hander from the Czech Republic who is ranked 42nd. World number one Alcaraz recovered from dropping the first set and saving a set point in the second to win 1-6, 7-6 (8/6), 6-1, 3-6, 6-4 after four hours and 42 minutes on Centre Court.

It was a second major for the 20-year-old Spaniard following his US Open title last year as he became Wimbledon's third youngest men's champion.

The Chandrayaan-3 mission by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) successfully lifted off from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, Andhra Pradesh, at 2.35 PM IST on  July 14.

The mission follows Chandrayaan-2 where scientists aim to demonstrate various capabilities including reaching the orbit of the moon, making a soft-landing on the lunar surface using a lander, and a rover coming out of the lander to study the surface of the moon.

Sixteen minutes after lift-off, propulsion module successfully separated from the rocket and would orbit the earth for about 5-6 times in an elliptical cycle with 170 km closest and 36,500 km farthest from earth moving towards the lunar orbit.

India has announced scholarships to Syrian students who want to study in India. Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan during his just-concluded visit to Syria also said India will soon send a consignment of cancer medicines.

This was the first ministerial visit from India to Syria since August 2016. In his meeting with Syrian Prime Minister Hussein Arnous, Muraleedharan discussed ways to strengthen bilateral ties, including development partnership assistance, education and capacity building.

The Syrian leadership widely appreciated India’s humanitarian support to Syria in the hour of need, particularly in the aftermath of the devastating Earthquake in February 2023.

The minister also called on His Holiness Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Syriac Patriarch of Antioch and all the East and discussed the robust people-to-people ties between the two countries, especially between the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and Kerala.

Jharkhand Government will soon launch Mukhya Mantri Sarthi Yojana (MMSY) to enhance employment opportunities for its youth. The scheme was scheduled to be launched on July 15 but was postponed due to unknown reasons. 

The scheme aims to connect talented youth with job and self-employment opportunities by providing free skill training. The scheme will be launched in 80 blocks across the state in its first phase (2023-24) and will be extended to other blocks eventually.

Under the scheme, youths will be made self-reliant with the assistance of the Birsa Centre (Block Level Institute for Rural Skill Acquisition), benefiting people from all backgrounds. Skill training will be provided at the block level for men and women of age groups 18-35 in the general category and up to 50 in the reserved category (ST/SC/OBC).

In case the trainees did not get a job even after 3 months, they will be provided an allowance of Rs 1000 and Rs 1500 each to the girls and boys respectively for a maximum period of one year through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
