The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has imposed a penalty totalling Rs 20 lakh on Future Corporate Resources, Kishore Biyani and 13 others for failing to make a public announcement of an open offer to the shareholders of Praxis Home Retail.

In its order released on May 2, Sebi has asked them to pay the fine within 45 days. Sebi found that Future Corporate Resources (FCRL) along with 14 entities failed to make a public announcement of an open offer following the increase in the shareholding of FCRL in Praxis.

Praxis’ equity shares aggregating to 30 lakh were allotted to one of its promoter entities FCRL, following the exercise of the conversion option of 3,180 compulsorily convertible debentures (CCDs) by FCRL, out of the 7,500 CCDs initially allotted to it.

After exercising the conversion option, the shareholding of FCRL in Praxis rose from 47.43% in the quarter ending December 2019 to 53.13%, an increase of 5.71% in shareholding as of February 11, 2020.

The Delhi Police has put in place adequate security measures around Jantar Mantar here after an alleged scuffle between the protesting wrestlers and some police personnel at the protesting site.

According to sources, heavy police force has been deployed at the site and the whole area has been barricaded.

The police have detained Rajya Sabha MP Dipendra Hooda and chairperson of the Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) Swati Maliwal who had reached the spot to support the wrestlers. Around 15 others have also been detained in a bus.

Four people, including Congress leader Deepender Hooda and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Somnath Bharti, were detained following the incident, police said.

The CBI has arrested former Chairman and Managing Director of WAPCOS Rajinder Kumar Gupta and his son Gaurav after it found over Rs 38 crore cash from their premises in one of the biggest seizures of cash by the agency.

WAPCOS, previously known as Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited, is a central public sector enterprise wholly owned by the government and is under the administrative control of the Ministry of Jal Shakti.

The agency began its searches on May 2 after booking Gupta, his wife Reema Singal, son Gaurav Singal, and daughter-in-law Komal Singal, for allegedly amassing illicit wealth during Gupta's tenure in the firm from April 01, 2011, to March 31, 2019.

Following the FIR, the CBI teams fanned across 19 locations in Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Sonipat, and Ghaziabad in a coordinated search operation leading to the detection of the staggering sum.

During its searches on May 2 , the CBI seized Rs 20 crore in cash, which rose to more than Rs 38 crore by May 3.

In addition to cash, a significant quantity of jewellery, valuable items, and property documents were also seized.

According to the official, the former bureaucrat and his family were also alleged to have set up a private consultancy business in Delhi after his retirement from service.

The alleged immovable properties of the accused consist of flats, commercial properties, farmhouses spread across Delhi, Gurugram, Panchkula, Sonipat, and Chandigarh.

Prime accused and the mastermind in the killing of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala, Satinder Singh Brar alias Goldy Brar (29) is now officially among Canada’s top 25 most wanted criminals as his name figures at 15th position among the wanted fugitives. Brar is also wanted for the murder by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

The RCMP recently created its own Fugitive Apprehension Support Team (FAST). High-value fugitives can be described as individuals that have been charged with serious offences, who present a significant public safety risk, and who are likely continuing to commit criminal offences to facilitate their flight from justice.

Noted historian Ranajit Guha has died due to old age-related ailments.

Guha, who was 100 years old, died at his residence in Austria. He left behind his wife Mechthild.

Born on May 23, 1923 at Barisal in present-day Bangladesh, Guha's family later shifted to Kolkata. He had studied in a school in the city and completed his post-graduation in History from Calcutta University.

Guha retired from the Australian National University in 1988 after being previously associated with other renowned institutions.

One of his well-known books is 'Elementary Aspects of Peasant Insurgency in Colonial India'.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) took a suo moto cognizance of the Ludhiana gas leak which claimed 11 lives. The victims include three minors.

An NGT bench headed by Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel constituted an eight-member fact-finding panel. It will be headed by the chairperson of the Punjab State Pollution Control Board.

The tribunal directed the Ludhiana district magistrate to pay Rs 20 lakh each to the next of kin of the victims who died after inhaling toxic gas.

The panel would comprise as its members, Regional Director (North), CPCB, Industrial Toxicology Research Centre (ITRC), Lucknow, a nominee of Director, PGI Chandigarh, a nominee of

NDRF, State PCB, District Magistrate, Ludhiana and Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Ludhiana.

State PCB will act as nodal agency for coordination and compliance.

He recalled Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the Maldives in June 2019, during which he emphasised that “‘Neighbourhood First’ is our priority and in the neighbourhood, ‘Maldives is our priority’.”
