Business conglomerate Adani Group's chairman Gautam Adani is now the world's second-richest person after overtaking Louis Vuitton's Bernard Arnault, according to Forbes' Real-Time Billionaires List.

At the time of writing this report, Gautam Adani's net worth was USD 153.9 billion, compared to Arnault's net worth of USD 153.7 billion. Adani is now just behind business magnate Elon Musk, according to Forbes' data.

Elon Musk's net worth is way higher at USD 273.5 billion. India's Mukesh Ambani is at number eight with a total net worth of USD 91.9 billion.

Gautam Adani is a first-generation entrepreneur and the Adani Group comprises 7 publicly listed entities with businesses spanning energy, ports and logistics, mining and resources, gas, defence and aerospace and airports. The Group has established a leadership position in India in each of its business areas.

The Adani Group is the third largest conglomerate (after Reliance Industries and the Tata Group) in India.

Listed Adani group companies are Adani Enterprises, Adani Green Energy, Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, Adani Power, Adani Total Gas, and Adani Transmission.

Fitch Ratings on  Sep 15 slashed its projection of India's economic growth to 7 per cent for current fiscal year, citing elevated inflation levels and higher interest rates.

Fitch, which had in June projected India's GDP to grow by 7.8 per cent in 2022-23, also forecast a slowdown in growth to 6.7 per cent in FY24 from its earlier estimate of 7.4 per cent.

In its Global Economic Outlook September 2022 released on Sep 15 , the rating agency said the GDP growth of 13.5 per cent in April-June, as per official data, was below its June expectation of 18.5 per cent increase.

Fitch joins other agencies who have downgraded India's economic growth forecast following a below-expected 13.5 per cent expansion in April-June (the first quarter of current fiscal year).

Moody's Investors Service expects India's GDP growth to slow from 8.3 per cent in 2021 to 7.7 per cent in 2022 and to decelerate further to 5.2 per cent in 2023.

In March, Moody's had forecast that India's economy could expand at 8.8 per cent in 2022.

Citigroup has sharply cut its FY23 growth projection to 6.7 per cent from 8 per cent earlier while Goldman Sachs revised it to 7 per cent from 7.2 per cent.

SBI expects 6.8 per cent growth from April 2022 to March 2023 (FY23) and India Ratings and Research (Ind-Ra) pegs it at 6.9 per cent. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) expects the economy to grow 7.2 per cent in current fiscal year.

IPL side Punjab Kings has appointed Trevor Bayliss as the team's new head coach ahead of the next season of the franchise-based T20 tournament.

Bengaluru teenager Pranav Anand became India's 76th Grandmaster after he crossed the 2,500 Elo mark in the ongoing World Youth Chess Championship in Mamaia, Romania.

Addressing a long-pending demand of several deprived communities, the Union Cabinet on  Sep 14 approved a proposal of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to add 12 communities to the Scheduled Tribes (ST) list. They include the nomadic Narikuravan and Kuruvikaran in Tamil Nadu and tribes from Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh.

Other communities that will get ST status include the Gond along with their five sub-castes in Bhadohi (earlier Sant Ravidas Nagar) district of UP, Betta-Kuruba community as a synonym of Kadu Kuruba in Karnataka, and Binjhia in Chhattisgarh.In poll-bound Himachal Pradesh, the Hattee community of the Trans-Giri area in Sirmour district will be included in the state’s ST list.
