The BJP  has suspended its Telangana MLA T Raja Singh for his controversial remarks aimed at Prophet Mohammad.

Singh, known for his hard Hindutva views and often controversial statements involving Muslims, was suspended by the party following protests against his comments leading to his arrest by the Telangana Police.

BJP leader from Haryana and actor Sonali Phogat, who found fame on TikTok, died of a suspected heart attack in Goa.

A case of unnatural death has been registered after Phogat (42), who was staying at a hotel, was declared ''brought dead'' at a hospital in Anjuna, they said, adding the post-mortem will be conducted on  Aug 24 and further investigation is on.

Phogat, who had appeared in the Big Boss reality TV series, had unsuccessfully contested from the Adampur Assembly constituency in Hisar on a BJP ticket against Kuldeep Bishnoi in the 2019 Assembly election.

In order to crack down on illicit liquor and drug smugglers in the state, the Uttar Pradesh government has set up an ‘Anti-Narcotics Task Force’ (ANTF) to check drug trafficking.

ANTF has been constituted following the directives of CM Yogi Adityanath to confiscate the properties of those found involved in illicit liquor and drugs trade and put up their posters at public places.

DIG Abdul Hamid has been appointed the first officer to head ANTF. 

EAM Jaishankar Jointly inaugurated the new Indian Embassy in Paraguay with his counterpart Julio Cesar Arriola .

Jaishankar, who is on his first-ever official visit to South America aimed at boosting overall bilateral ties with the region, is also the first Indian Foreign Minister to visit Paraguay, coinciding with the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The Indian Embassy in Paraguay began functioning from January this year. The establishment of a resident Indian Embassy will spur an expansion of the economic engagement between the two countries.

Trade and investment will be the focus of the bilateral activities.

Human rights groups on Aug 23 have said UK intelligence agencies may have shared information with India that led to the arrest and torture of a Sikh blogger from Scotland.

Jagtar Singh Johal has been held in detention in India for more than four years.

He is accused of being part of a terror plot against right-wing Hindu leaders and has been charged with conspiracy to murder.

Johal, from Dumbarton in west Scotland, has filed a legal claim against the UK government and is being represented by British law firm Leigh Day.

He is asking for a public apology and redress from the government.

The UN working group on arbitrary detention reported this year that Johal's arrest was "arbitrary" and on "discriminatory grounds".

Vishvapradhan Commercial Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of the Adani group, is set to to acquire a 29.18 per cent stake in NDTV.

"VCPL holds warrants of RRPR Holding Private Limited (RRPR), NDTV's promoter company, entitling it to convert them into 99.99% stake in RRPR. VCPL has exercised warrants to acquire 99.5% stake in RRPR. Such acquisition will result in VCPL acquiring control of RRPR," an Adani group press release said.

The Adani group has also made a Rs 493-crore open offer for a 26% stake in NDTV at Rs 294 per share.

Radhika Roy and Prannoy Roy are the directors of RRPR.

NDTV recorded a revenue of INR 421 crores with an EBITDA of INR 123 Crores and a net profit of INR 85 Crores in FY22 with negligible debt.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M Scindia  has exuded confidence that India will become the number one producer of steel in the world in the days to come. India is the world's second-largest producer of crude steel after China.

The minister was speaking during a conference on the Indian minerals and metals industry organised by NMDC and Ficci.

He was of the view that India has moved from becoming the net importer of steel to the net exporter of steel.

He said India's per capita consumption of steel has increased from 57.8 kg in 2013-14 to 78 kg. The government intends to achieve 300 million tonnes (MT) of steel production target by 2030, Scindia said.
