India beat Zimbabwe by 13 runs in the third One-Day International (ODI) to complete a 3-0 series sweep.

Shubman Gill (130) struck a stroke-filled century to power India to 289 for eight.

In reply, Zimbabwe's innings ended at 276 in 49.3 overs thanks to Sikandar Raza's brilliant 95-ball 115.

Ellen White, England's all-time record women's goalscorer has  announced her retirement from football with immediate effect after a glittering 17-year career that culminated in last month's Euro 2022 triumph.

The 33-year-old forward scored 52 times in 113 appearances for the Lionesses, while her club career also included stints at Arsenal, Chelsea, Notts County, Birmingham, and Leeds.

Former India football team captain Samar 'Badru' Banerjee, who led the country to a historic fourth-place finish in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, died after a prolonged illness.

The Indian football teams have participated in three Olympics so far and till date, the performance by the Banerjee-led 1956 side remains the best, when it finished fourth after losing to Bulgaria 0-3 in the bronze medal playoff, in what was known as the 'golden era' of football in the country.

The elections to the AIFF Executive Committee will be held on September 2 and aspiring candidates can file fresh nominations from August 25, the returning officer has announced.

The Supreme Court  has terminated the Committee of Administrators (CoA), as demanded by the world governing body FIFA, and pushed back the AIFF election by a week.

Hours after the SC order, returning officer Umesh Sinha issued a fresh notice, outlining the process afresh.

The nominations for the posts can be filed between Aug 25 and  Aug 27 while the scrutiny will be done on August 28.

The candidates, whose nominations are deemed valid, will have a chance to withdraw the nomination, if they want, on August 29 while the returning officer shall prepare the final list of contesting candidates and put it on the AIFF website on August 30.

The polls would be held on September 2 at AIFF Headquarters in New Delhi and the results could be announced either on September 2 or 3, according to the returning officer's notice.

World football governing body FIFA had suspended the All India Football Federation (AIFF) on August 15 for "undue third party interference", jeopardising the U17 Women World Cup, the country is set to host in October.

Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Aug 22 claimed that he was approached by the BJP with the offer to close all cases against him if he joined their party.

Asserting that all the allegations against him were false, Sisodia said he will never bow down before "conspirators and corrupt people".

Sisodia is among 15 people and entities named in an FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation in connection with alleged irregularities in the implementation of the Delhi excise policy.

The AAP leader's house was raided on  Aug 19 by the CBI over alleged corruption in the Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22.

All eyes are set on Bihar assembly speaker Vijay Kumar Sinha against whom ruling RJD members have moved 'no trust motion', likely to be taken up in case he does not resign by August 24 when the RJD-led grand alliance or Mahagathbandhan government goes for a floor test.

According to the rule, a Speaker can be removed from office by a resolution of the Assembly passed by a majority. While the seven constituents of the RJD-led Mahagathbandhan have a total of 164 members in the Assembly, the BJP has 77 MLAs.

The outgoing state legislative council chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh has also not resigned from his post so far. Meanwhile, RJD and JD (U) have reached a consensus on the names of the Bihar assembly speaker and state legislative council chairman.

While veteran RJD leader Awadh Bihari Choudhary is likely to be assembly speaker, Devesh Chandra Thakur most probably will be the next state legislative council chairman.

Choudhary as RJD candidate had defeated his BJP rival and former party MP Om Prakash Yadav from Siwan in the last assembly election. A five-time RJD MLA from Siwan, Choudhary had also contested for the post of assembly speaker after the last assembly election but he was defeated by the BJP candidate Sinha.
