The Sports Authority of India has sanctioned Rs 1 crore to the Archery Association of India as a financial grant for the upcoming Asian Para Archery Championships.

The meet, slated from May 31 to June 6 at Yamuna Sports Complex, was awarded to India after its original hosts Kazakhstan pulled out citing organisational issues because of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war.

At the last edition of Asian Para Archery Championships in Bangkok 2019, the derecognised Indian para archers had to represent under the 'World Archery' banner and returned with one gold, one silver and one bronze.

• Former petroleum secretary Tarun Kapoor has been appointed as an advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

• Kapoor, a 1987-batch IAS officer of the Himachal Pradesh cadre, superannuated as the secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on November 30, 2021.

• The Punjab and Haryana High Court  has stayed the arrest of former Aam Aadmi Party leader Kumar Vishwas in a case of allegedly making inflammatory statements against Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
• The case was registered against him by the Punjab Police on April 12. The court of Justice Anoop Chitkara fixed July 4 as the next date of hearing. Vishwas had moved the high court last week, seeking quashing of the FIR registered against him.
• The high court had heard the petition on April 27 and then reserved its verdict on the matter for May 2.
• Ahead of the assembly elections, Vishwas had accused Kejriwal of supporting separatists. The Punjab Police on April 20 had visited the house of the former AAP leader, who is also a poet, in Ghaziabad and summoned him for questioning.
• In his petition, Vishwas had submitted that the case registered against him was a "sheer abuse of process of law and apparently politically motivated." "The manner in which the investigating agency is proceeding, it is apparent that it is trying to curtail the liberty of the petitioner by adopting a procedure unknown to law," he had submitted.
• Vishwas had submitted that the registration of the FIR against him was "absolutely illegal, arbitrary and unjust and it is nothing but a means to wreak vengeance through politically motivated criminal investigation by using the state machinery for oblique motive of political gain."

• Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has announced that a stadium will be built in Olympic gold-medallist Neeraj Chopra's native village in Panipat.
• Making the announcement after inaugurating a cooperative sugar mill in Panipat, the chief minister said Neeraj Chopra, who belongs to Haryana, has made the country and the state proud by winning an Olympic gold medal last year.
• Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra's native village Khandra is in Panipat.
• Last year, Chopra became the first Indian to win a gold medal in Olympic track and field.
• Khattar said that Haryana has become a sports hub and players from the state have brought laurels at various national and international level sporting events.

• Power consumption in the country grew 13.6 per cent year-on-year to 132.98 billion units (BU) in April, showing the impact of the early onset of summers and spurt in economic activities, according to power ministry data.
• Power consumption in April last year was recorded at 117.08 BU, which was higher than 84.55 BU in the same month of 2020.
• On the other hand, the peak power demand met, which is the highest supply in a day, during April this year remained at an all-time high of 207.11 GW.
• The peak power supply stood at 182.37 GW in April 2021 and 132.73 GW in April 2020.
• The power consumption and demand were affected in April 2020 also due to the imposition of lockdown restrictions for curbing the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

• India's manufacturing sector activities witnessed faster growth in April amid quicker increases in production as well as factory orders, and renewed expansion in international sales, a monthly survey said on May 2 .
• The seasonally adjusted S&P Global India Manufacturing Purchasing Managers' Index (PMI) rose from 54.0 in March to 54.7 in April, as a retreat of COVID-19 restrictions continued to support demand.
• The April PMI data pointed to an improvement in overall operating conditions for the tenth straight month.
• In PMI parlance, a print above 50 means expansion, while a score below 50 denotes contraction.
• April data showed a rebound in new export orders, following the first contraction for nine months in March.

• IT & Industries Minister KT Rama Rao has inaugurated US-based Procter & Gamble’s (P&G) first liquid detergent manufacturing unit in Kothur.
• This is P&G's first liquid detergent manufacturing unit in India. The company has invested about Rs 200 crore in setting up the new liquid detergent unit which focuses on producing the company’s fabric care brands Ariel, Tide and baby care brand Pampers.
• P&G also entered into an MoU with the Telangana government to partner in the area of menstrual health and hygiene education in the State of Telangana. At the event, P&G also donated about 1.3 lakh sanitary pads.
