Trailblazing Indian tennis star Sania Mirza and her Czech partner Lucie Hradecka fritted away a great opportunity to lose the Dubai Tennis Championships doubles semifinal .

After dominating the first set, Sania and Hradecka lost 6-2 2-6 7-10 to Lyudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine and Latvia's Jelena Ostapenko.

The veteran Indian had won the doubles title in 2013 with USA's Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

The 35-year-old, who is India's most accomplished woman tennis player having won six Grand Slam titles, including three mixed doubles trophies, had earlier announced that 2022 would be her last season.

Regular international flights likely to resume from March 15

Regular international flights are likely to resume from March 15 and will follow the standard operating procedures effective at Indian airports for foreign arrivals and departure.

Given the consistent decline in Covid cases, a decision on resuming scheduled international flights has almost been arrived at by the Civil Aviation Ministry following consultation with the Health Ministry.

However, no official announcement has been made by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation so far.

The ban on scheduled international passenger flights in India is in effect till February 28.

Such flights have been suspended in India since March 23, 2020, due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Special passenger flights have been functioning between India and around 40 countries since July 2020 under air bubble arrangements.

Meanwhile, full-service carrier Vistara's CEO Vinod Kannan has said it has no plans to operate flights to Ukraine.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has ordered blocking of mobile applications, website, and social media accounts of foreign-based 'Punjab Politics TV' allegedly having close links with Sikhs For Justice (SFJ).

Reasoning the action, the ministry stated that the organisation had been declared unlawful under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The ministry added that the Government remains vigilant and committed to securing the overall information environment in India and thwarting any actions that have the potential to undermine India’s sovereignty and integrity.

Earlier the ministry launched a crackdown on Pakistan’s based digital channels, portals, and social media handles running anti-India agenda and spreading fake news. It had ordered the blocking of 35 YouTube news channels and two websites last month.

Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar said on feb 22 that 1.6 crore people in the state have given up drinking liquor since prohibition was enforced in April 2016.

Addressing a meeting of Jeevika workers at Bhagalpur, Nitish said a similar survey was carried out in 2018. He revealed that prohibition was implemented on the demand of Jeevika workers at a meeting in Patna, ahead of the assembly polls in Bihar in 2015.

The prohibition was implemented within six months of his return to power. The awareness campaign was launched in the state to make the people aware of the consequences of the consumption of alcohol. In April 2016, the law came into effect, he said.

Calling upon Jeevika workers to help the government machinery in the implementation of the prohibition law more effectively, Nitish said that around 1.28 crore families were associated with self-help groups (SHGs).

Referring to women empowerment, Nitish said that 50% of seats were reserved for women in the Panchayati Raj institutions in 2006. As a result, a number of women were elected as mukhiyas, sarpanchs and panchs and ward members etc.

He revealed that Bihar became the first state in the country to appoint a large number of women in the state police force. Besides, 35% seats have been reserved for women in government jobs,” he pointed out.

He exhorted the people to make prohibition and campaign against child marriage and dowry a grand success. Earlier, he highlighted the development works in the field of health, education, road, and other sectors during his tenure as chief minister.

MP CM declares Jain pilgrimage centre as 'holy area'; to ban meat, liquor sale

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has declared two towns, including Jain pilgrimage centre Kundalpur, as "holy areas" and said the sale of meat and liquor will be banned there.

Chouhan made the announcement while participating in Panchkalyanak Maha Mahotsav of the Jain community in Kundalpur, located 285 km from the state capital Bhopal.

Bandakpur town is famous for a Lord Shiva temple.

Chouhan said as per the wish expressed by Vidyasagar Maharaj, the state government will start medical and engineering course studies in Hindi within a year.

He also appealed to citizens to come forward for the work of cow protection and to plant trees for a better environment.

Earlier this month, state Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang had said the state government will start the MBBS course in Hindi in Bhopal's Gandhi Medical College from next academic session.

India rejects allegations of harassment of journalist Rana Ayyub as 'baseless, unwarranted'

Reacting strongly, India has dubbed as "baseless and unwarranted" the allegations by the United Nation's mission in Geneva of "judicial harassment" against journalist Rana Ayyub, and asserted that the country upholds the rule of law and no one is above it.

India's permanent mission in Geneva, in a tweet, said advancing a "misleading narrative" only "tarnishes" the reputation of the UN mission.

Official sources in New Delhi said the matter will be followed up by a note verbale from the Indian mission in Geneva. Earlier, the UN in Geneva tweeted about "relentless misogynistic and sectarian attacks online" against journalist Ayyub.

It quoted UN human rights experts to say that the attacks on Ayyub must be promptly and thoroughly investigated by the Indian authorities and that the judicial harassment against her brought to an end.

Earlier this month, sources in the Enforcement Directorate said the agency has attached over Rs 1.77 crore worth of bank deposits of Ayyub in connection with a money-laundering probe against her linked to alleged irregularities in charitable funds raised from public donors.

Ayyub rejected the allegations, saying money-laundering charges levelled against her are "preposterous and wholly mala fide".

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has met his counterparts from Bangladesh, South Korea, the Czech Republic and the European Union in Paris, discussing issues of mutual interest and ways to step up bilateral engagement.

Jaishankar, who arrived Paris from Germany on a three-day visit to France, has held a series of meetings with his counterparts from other Indo-Pacific countries participating in the EU Indo-Pacific Forum.
