China will deliver 25 J-10C fighter jets to Pakistan within weeks in a major boost to the countrys military capabilities to defend its airspace .

UK's Financial Times reported that the first batch of combat aircraft is being tested in Chengdu, the base of its manufacturer Chengdu Aerospace Corporation.

The images of the J-10C fighter jet with the marking of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) recently surfaced on social media and were widely circulated by media outlets.

Israel has said that it successfully tested a new naval air defense system, intercepting a series of threats in what officials called a key layer of protection against Iran and its proxies in the region.

The C-Dome system is a naval version of the Iron Dome, which has been used to shoot down rockets fired from the Gaza Strip for the past decade.

The C-Dome is being installed on Israel's latest-generation corvette warships, which protect Israel's coastline and offshore natural gas assets in the Mediterranean.

The C-Dome is to become part of Israel's multilayer missile defense system which includes weapons capable of intercepting everything from long-range missiles to short-range rockets.

IDFC FIRST Bank MD and CEO V Vaidyanathan has gifted 9 lakh shares of the bank held by him, worth over Rs 3.95 crore, to five individuals, including his trainer, househelp and driver, to help them purchase homes.

These five people are unrelated to the top official of the private sector bank.

Earlier too, he had gifted shares in his personal capacity to some individuals unrelated to him.

Multi-terabit undersea cable to connect Maldives with India and Singapore: Jio

Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd. (Jio) has said it will land the next generation multi-terabit undersea cable in Maldives to connect the south Asian country with India and Singapore. According to Jio, the new India-Asia-Xpress (IAX) undersea cable in Hulhumale, Maldives will provide more than 200Tb per second of capacity at speed of 100 GB per second, over 16,000 kms.

The IAX system originates in Mumbai in the west and connects to Singapore, with branches including additional landings in India, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Nationwide social media campaign to promote Indian languages

On International Mother Language Day on February 21, the High Powered Committee for the Promotion of Indian Languages, set up by the Union education ministry last year, will launch a nationwide social media campaign to promote native languages as envisaged in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

The Central Institute of Classical Tamil, Chennai, and Central Institute of Indian Languages, Mysore, are also part of this social media campaign, said Chamu Krishna Shastry, who chairs the committee, whose mandate is to explore and recommend pathways for the holistic and multidisciplinary growth of Indian languages.

Advocating the use of Mother Tongue Day instead of International Mother Language Day as declared by UNESCO, Shastry, a Padma Shri awardee, said, “My focus is ‘matra bhasha diwas’ (Mother Tongue Day). If you use international, then you lose the Indian context.”

To celebrate the day, the committee has developed posters and selected 19 quotes of prominent persons like Aurobindo, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi, APJ Abdul Kalam, and excerpts from NEP regarding mother tongue.

These quotes will be translated into 22 scheduled languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Urdu, Sindhi, Sanskrit, said Shastry, an educationist and founding member of NGO Samskrita Bharati.

The NEP 2020 advocates promotion of Indian languages and recommends that efforts should be taken to preserve and promote all Indian languages.

He said all educational institutions in India would also promote Indian languages, including classical, minority, tribal, and endangered languages.

Jaishankar begins 3-day visit to France; to attend EU Ministerial Forum for Cooperation in Indo-Pacific

External Affairs Minister (EAM) S Jaishankar on feb 20 began his three-day visit to France during which he will attend EU Ministerial Forum for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific amid Chinese assertiveness in the region.

During his visit, Jaishankar will hold a bilateral meeting with his French counterpart Jean-Yves Le Drian.

Jaishankar will attend the EU Ministerial Forum for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific on February 22, an initiative of the French Presidency of the European Council.

EAM will also hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from EU and other Indo-Pacific countries on the sidelines of the Forum. He will also give an address at the French Institute of International Relations (IFRI).

Meanwhile, China has formed 3,200 acres of artificial land in the South China Sea, raised an airstrip with the capacity to land fighter jets and large commercial planes, built 72 fighter-jet hangers, and commissioned 10-12 large aircraft on Fiery Cross, Subi, and Mischief Reefs in the Spratly Islands. It has made military installations in the Woody Island of the Paracel Islands.

The construction of these artificial islands is in clear violation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) of 1982, of which China is also a signatory.

This visit comes after Jaishankar participated in Munich Security Conference (MSC) 2022 in Germany and held a series of meeting with ministers from Europe, Asia, and other parts of the world.
