Jiah Aryan was six when she first saw skiers in Kashmir and was fascinated by the sport. Seven years later in 2022, she was the only participant from Karnataka to represent the National Skiing and Snowboard Championship at Auli, Uttarakhand. The race was held between Feb 7 and Feb 9, amidst heavy snow where Jiah crashed towards the 70 per cent mark of the race slope, going onto finish the race in fourth place at the Giant Slalom event.

Hockey India names 65 players for junior men's national camp
Hockey India on feb 12 has named 65 players for the upcoming junior women's national camp which will be held from February 14 to 25 at the Sports Authority of India (SAI) centre in Bengaluru
The players have been selected on the basis of performance at the last FIH junior men's world cup in Bhubaneswar and other Hockey India sanctioned domestic events last year.
The camp will be held with an aim to select 33 core probable list of players for the upcoming tournaments in 2022 for the India junior men's hockey team.

The Republic of Kiribati, an independent island nation in the Central Pacific Ocean, had managed to keep Covid at bay as it had closed its borders for two years. However, the moment they reopened and the first flight landed, it brought in the virus.
The country, which has a population of 119,000, is facing a challenge with the outbreak of the virus and India has stepped in to provide relief.
The Indian government has sent a consignment of medical supplies containing PPE kits, pulse oximeters, swabs with VTM, gloves and masks amongst other Covid 19 supplies.
Only 33 per cent of Kiribati’s entire population is fully vaccinated, while 59 per cent have had at least one dose, according to the online scientific publication Our World in Data. And like many other Pacific nations, Kiribati offers only basic health services.

Putting an end to the speculation of closure of the Thiruvananthapuram-based Railway Recruitment Board, Union railway minister Ashwini Vaishnav said that the railways have no such plan.
Replying to a query in the Rajya Sabha, the minister made it clear that no proposal was moved by the ministry to wind up any unit of the Railway Recruitment Board.
Speculation in the air that the railway, in the backdrop of recent violent protests over alleged irregularities in the result of the NTPC exam, is considering closing the RRBs.
The Railway minister giving a statement in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha categorically denied such a move to close the RRB. He said that said the railway has not moved any such proposal at present time to close any Railway Recruitment Board.

India faces "very significant challenges", in particular from China and its behaviour in the Line of Actual Control, the White House has said, as it unveiled the Biden administration's first region-specific report on the strategic Indo-Pacific.
The report on US's Indo-Pacific Strategy, released on feb 11, outlines President Joe Biden's vision to firmly anchor the country's position in the Indo-Pacific, strengthen the region and support India's rise and regional leadership.
"We recognise that India is a like-minded partnerand leader in South Asia and the Indian Ocean, active in and connected to Southeast Asia, a driving force of the Quad and other regional fora, and an engine for regional growth and development," the White House statement added.

Former chairman of the Bajaj Group Rahul Bajaj died in Pune on feb 12 . He was 83.
Bajaj is survived by two sons, Rajiv Bajaj and Sanjiv Bajaj; and daughter Sunaina Kejriwal.
He resigned from his position of non-executive director and chairman at Bajaj Auto on April 30 last year.
Under Rahul Bajaj's stewardship, flagship firm Bajaj Auto saw its turnover growing to Rs 12,000 crore from just Rs 7.2 crore with the firm's scooters becoming the mainstay.
The company's Bajaj Chetak scooter became an aspirational symbol for the middle-class Indian families then, with the Humara Bajaj tune becoming synonymous with their hopes of a better future.
In 2005, he began passing the baton of the company to son Rajiv Bajaj, who became the managing director of Bajaj Auto and led the company to become a truly global automobile player.
One of the most successful business leaders of India, Bajaj was elected to Rajya Sabha in June 2006 and remained a member till 2010.
Bajaj was a recipient of many awards, including the Padma Bhushan and honorary doctorates from many universities.
He also held many other positions, including the chairman of Indian Airlines and chairman of the board of governors of the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay.
He was also a former chairman of the International Business Council, World Economic Forum and a former member of the South Asia advisory board of Harvard Business School.
Besides, he was a former member of the International Advisory Council of the Brookings Institution in Washington, DC.

Gujarat-based ABG Shipyards accused of defrauding 28 banks of Rs 22,842 crore by CBI
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on feb 12 filed a case against ABG Shipyards Limited and its directors/promoters Rishi Kamlesh Agarwal, Santhanam Muthaswamy, Ashwani Kumar, Sushil Kumar Agarwal and Ravi Vimal Nevetia for allegedly duping 28 banks of Rs 22,842 crore.
It was alleged that the accused had cheated the consortium of 28 banks including the branches of the erstwhile State Bank of Patiala, Commercial Finance Branch, New Delhi, the erstwhile State Bank of Travancore, Commercial Branch, New Delhi, State Bank of India, Overseas Branch, Mumbai etc. The consortium was led by ICICI Bank.
If found to be true, this would rank as the biggest bank-loan fraud reported in the country, dwarfing those involving Nirav Modi and Vijay Mallya.
CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said the accused had allegedly colluded and pulled off the fraud through fund diversions that were then used to purchase assets. He said huge investments were made in the overseas subsidiaries.
The CBI had swung into action after a complaint lodged by the State Bank of India. CBI teams conducted searches at 14 locations spread across Surat, Bharuch, Mumbai and Pune during which it recovered documents that implicated the firm and those managing it.
ABG Shipyards, an offshoot of the ABG Group of companies, is based at Dahej and Surat and involved in building ships and repairing them.

India expresses concern over 'anti-India' activities in UK, seeks proactive action
India has expressed concern over "anti-India" activities of certain extremists and radical elements in the UK and urged the country to maintain vigil and take appropriate proactive action.
This was conveyed at the 4th India-UK Home Affairs Dialogue held in virtual mode on Feb 10 .
India also impressed upon the UK authorities the need to expedite pending extradition cases.
Both sides agreed to maintain enhanced security cooperation between the two countries.
The dialogue covered a wide range of issues, including homeland security, cyber security, extradition cases, and migration and mobility.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to deepen security-related bilateral engagement.
The Indian delegation was led by Union Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla and the UK delegation was led by Permanent Secretary, Home Office, Mathew Rycroft.
