·       The Supreme Court Collegium  has recommended the transfer of Madras High Court Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee to the Meghalaya High Court.

·       The collegium headed by Chief Justice of India NV Ramana, in a meeting held on September 16, also recommended the transfer of Justice Munishwar Nath Bhandari of the Allahabad High Court to the Madras High Court.

·       Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee was appointed the Chief Justice of Madras High Court in January 2021 and has not yet completed a year after being appointed the same.

·       He is known for making strong observations in court and his oral comments that the Election Commission should be booked on murder charges for the lack of Covid norms followed in the election process was one among the important statements.

·       Justice Sanjib Banerjee had also earlier categorically said the welfare of fishermen should be the first preference over beautification of the Marina beach.

·       Pakistan has  urged India to reopen the Kartarpur Corridor from its side and allow Sikh pilgrims to visit the holy site for the upcoming Guru Nanak Dev's birthday celebrations.

·       The Kartarpur Corridor was inaugurated by Prime Minister Imran Khan on the eve of the 550th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev on November 9, 2019.

·       But the coronavirus pandemic hit the region along with the world just months after the opening of the corridor.

·       The movement of pilgrims to Pakistan through the corridor has been suspended since March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the neighbouring country banned all travel from India citing the surge in cases in April this year.

·      The 4km-long Kartarpur Corridor provides visa free access to Indian Sikh pilgrims to visit Gurdwara Darbar Sahib. Sikhism founder Guru Nanak Dev lived and died at this gurdwara at the start of the 16th century.

·       Vice Admiral R Hari Kumar will take charge as the next Chief of the Indian Navy after the incumbent, Admiral Karambir Singh, retires on November 30.

·       Vice Admiral Kumar is presently serving as the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Western Naval Command.

·       Vice Admiral Anil Kumar Chawla, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Southern Command, is the senior-most officer after Admiral Singh, but he is also retiring on November 30 .

·      After Vice Admiral Chawla, Vice Admiral Kumar is the senior-most naval commander .

·       Eminent academician and psychologist Koneru Ramakrishna Rao died of age-related illness

·       Ramakrishna Rao (89) was a recipient of Padma Shri in the year 2011.

·       He served as the Vice-Chancellor of Andhra University and Chancellor of GITAM deemed-to-be university and had written over 20 books and several hundred research papers.

·       He was an internationally recognised psychologist and served as president of US-based Parapsychological Association and Indian Academy of Applied Psychology.

·       A court in Myanmar sentenced two members of ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi's political party to 90 years and 75 years in prison after finding them guilty of corruption  .The sentences appeared to be the most severe so far for any of the dozens of members of Suu Kyi’s National League for Democracy who were arrested after the military seized power on Feb. 1.

·       Former Kayin state planning minister Than Naing was convicted by the state court of six corruption charges and given a 90-year prison term, including labor.

·       The second defendant, Nan Khin Htwe Myint, 67, the former chief minister of Kayin state and a top member of Suu Kyi's political party, was sentenced to 15 years in prison on each of five charges .

·       Suu Kyi is also being tried on corruption and other criminal charges that her supporters say were concocted to discredit her and legitimize the military’s seizure of power. Virtually any conviction would prevent her from running in elections that the military-installed government has promised to hold by 2023.

·       A Bangladeshi court  has sentenced in absentia former top judge Surendra Kumar Sinha, the country's first chief justice from the minority Hindu community, to 11 years in jail on two counts of graft in a case over money laundering and breach of trust.

·       Dhaka Special Judge 4 Shaikh Nazmul Alam sentenced the former chief justice, who currently lives in the United States, to seven years in prison for money laundering and another four years for criminal breach of trust. The prison terms will run concurrently.

·       Sinha, 70, was sentenced to 11 years in prison in a case involving the laundering of Tk 4 crore (USD 4,70,000) taken in credit from the Farmers Bank, now known as the Padma Bank.

·       The judgment came four years after Sinha resigned while on a visit abroad as the government alleged he was involved in corrupt practices.

·       Sinha served as the 21st Chief Justice of Bangladesh from January, 2015 to November, 2017.

·      Sinha, Bangladesh's first chief justice from the minority Hindu community, has alleged that he was forced to resign because he opposed Bangladesh's incumbent "undemocratic" and "authoritarian" regime.

·       Former ICICI Bank chairman and veteran Banker KV Kamath has been appointed as a senior advisor to global investment firm KKR India. Kamath also served as the chairman of Infosys Limited, the leading IT software services company. Last month, he was appointed the Chairperson of India’s newly established National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development. 

·       Rohit Sharma was officially appointed India's new T20 captain replacing Virat Kohli, who has been rested from the three-match series against New Zealand starting November 17 in Jaipur.The new-look team also has IPL's highest run-getter Ruturaj Gaikwad and top wicket-taker Harshal Patel in the squad of 16 along with Venkatesh Iyer, who is seen as a potential all-round replacement for the injury-ravaged Hardik Pandya.

·       Pandya has been dropped from the squad after failing to make an impact during the T20 World Cup.Ruturaj has already played for India in the Sri Lanka series.

·       Senior leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal rightfully got his place in the squad back while Mohammed Siraj, who has played a few T20Is in the past, is also in the mix.

·       Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel and Deepak Chahar, who were in the T20 World Cup reserves are now in the main squad.Rohit's appointment was a formality and KL Rahul will be his new deputy in shortest format.

·       Pacers Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami and spinner Ravindra Jadeja have also been given much-needed rest for the short series.
