Govt manages to meet fiscal deficit target of 6.4% for FY23

The government has managed to stick to the 6.4% fiscal deficit target for FY23, official data released showed. This is better than 6.71% in FY22. The Centre aims to bring down fiscal deficit to 5.9% of the GDP in FY24, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced during her Budget speech in February.

Govt reopens semiconductor incentive scheme; Vedanta-Foxconn can reapply

The government  invited fresh applications for setting up Semiconductor Fabs and Display Fabs units in the country from June 1, 2023. A fiscal incentive of 50% of the project cost is available to applicants for setting up of Semiconductor Fabs and Display Fabs units of any node (including mature nodes). Companies can apply for the scheme till December 2024. The application will be received by India Semiconductor Mission (ISM).

GDP grows 6.1 per cent in March quarter, 7.2 per cent in FY23
