Former Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) officer, Sameer Wankhede, who is accused of allegedly demanding Rs 25 crore as a bribe for not framing Shah Rukh Khan's son Aryan Khan in the drugs-on-cruise case, on May 13  alleged that he was being punished for being a patriot.

Wankhede's statement came in response to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raids raiding his residence and other premises on May 12.

On May 12, the CBI registered a case against Sameer Wankhede and three others in connection with a corruption case related to the Aryan Khan drugs-on-cruise case.

According to reports, the CBI had received information that Sameer Wankhede and his accomplice allegedly collected Rs 50 lakhs as advance to not frame Aryan Khan in the drug case.

The CBI on May 12 had also conducted searches at 29 locations in Mumbai, Delhi, Ranchi, Lucknow, Guwahati and Chennai after filing the FIR against the 2008-batch IRS officer Wankhede and four others -- then NCB Superintendent Vishwa Vijay Singh, Intelligence Officer Ashish Ranjan and two private persons K P Gosavi and Sanvile D'Souza -- in the case.

The probe agency alleged the NCB, Mumbai Zone had received information in October, 2021 related to the consumption and possession of narcotics substances by various individuals on a private cruise ship.

Wankhede had raided Cordelia Cruise and arrested Aryan Khan in an alleged drug case.

Aryan Khan, who was formally arrested by the NCB on October 3, 2021, was granted bail by the Bombay High Court on October 28, 2021 after spending 25 days in jail.

The Congress easily crossed the 113-seat mark in the Assembly elections, the majority required to form the government, in Karnataka for which counting of votes took place on May 13.

The election was widely seen as a litmus test for both parties ahead of the 2024 parliamentary polls.

The Congress won over 130 seats, more than double that of the BJP, which was unable to break a 38-year jinx of Karnataka not voting an incumbent to power. BJP leaders said they would wait till counting ended to analyse why and how they lost.

As connected cars become mainstream globally, Toyota has issued an apology after it discovered that millions of customers' partial data were made public "due to misconfiguration of the Cloud environment" for a decade.

The automaker said it will notify nearly 2.15 million customers in Japan whose personal and vehicle information was left exposed on the web from November 6, 2013, to April 17, 2023.

The exposed data includes registered email addresses, vehicle-unique chassis and navigation terminal numbers, the location of vehicles and what time they were there, and videos from the vehicle's "drive recorder".

The company said that the main reason for this incident was insufficient explanation and thoroughness of rules for data handling.

Elon Musk has confirmed that the new CEO for Twitter, or X Corp. as it’s now called, will be NBCUniversal’s Linda Yaccarino, an executive with deep ties to the advertising industry.

Yaccarino has worked at NBCUniversal for nearly 12 years —with her team generating more than $100 billion in ad sales since 2011, her company bio notes. According to LinkedIn, Yaccarino previously served as NBC’s chair for advertising and client partnerships and as president of cable entertainment and digital advertising sales. Prior to her time with NBC, Yaccarino worked at global entertainment company Turner for almost two decades.

Yaccarino interviewed Musk on a Miami stage last month in front of hundreds of advertisers. Luring advertisers is critical for Musk and Twitter after many fled in the early months after his takeover of the social media platform, fearing harm to their brands in the ensuing chaos. Musk said in late April that advertisers had returned, but provided no details.

Yaccarino could help restore advertisers’ faith in Twitter, ad agency DiGo founder and creative chief Mark DiMassimo said. He noted that Yaccarino successfully integrated and digitised ad sales at Comcast and NBC—and that her track record of cross-selling ads across different platforms could appeal to Musk as he tries to transform Twitter from a social media company to a bigger media platform.

Musk has long insisted he is not the company’s permanent CEO. The Tesla billionaire said in a tweet that his role will transition to being Twitter’s executive chairman and chief technology officer.

Several Kuki leaders came together at a consultative meeting held in Kuki-majority Churachandpur on May 13  in the backdrop of the bout of violence. They were unanimous on statehood for the Kukis.

The meeting comes days after Manipur had witnessed massive violence that claimed more than 60 lives

Two days ago, all ten Kuki MLAs, including eight from the ruling BJP, demanded “separate administration” for the Kukis.

They said the “unabated violence” against the Chin-Kuki-Mizo-Zomi hill tribals has already partitioned the state and effected a total separation from Manipur.

Violent clashes in the state were reported since May 3 after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised by the All Tribal Student Union Manipur (ATSUM) in the ten hill districts of Manipur to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.

Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of the state population and live mostly in the Imphal valley.

Tribals -- Nagas and Kukis -- constitute another 40 per cent of the population and reside mostly in the hill districts.
