Former Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan expressed grievances about his arrest on May 11 , claiming that he was abducted from the Islamabad High Court and beaten with sticks, which is not an acceptable treatment for even a criminal.

Khan claimed that he was taken to various places, including the police lines, and had no knowledge of what was happening outside.

Khan also mentioned that he had many cases registered against him, including on charges of terrorism, and demanded to see the arrest warrant. He also criticised those who want chaos and anarchy instead of elections, stating that a party that wants elections will not support such behaviour.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman urged his party workers to refrain from damaging public and private property.

During the hearing in the Supreme Court on May 11, Khan appealed to the public to protest peacefully and not harm the country.

The court termed Khan's arrest by Pakistan's anti-corruption body as illegal and ruled that the PTI chief should be released immediately. Khan was under the custody of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Authorities in Bangladesh and Myanmar prepared to evacuate hundreds of thousands of people May 12 , warning them to stay away from coastal areas as a severe cyclonic storm called Mocha churned in the Bay of Bengal.

The storm is expected to roar in on May 14  with a wind speed of up to 160 kilometres per hour (100 miles per hour), gusting to 175 kph (110 mph) between Cox’s Bazar in Bangladesh and Kyaukpyu in Myanmar, India's Meteorological Department said.

Bangladesh is a delta nation of more than 160 million people and is prone to natural disasters such as floods and cyclones. Evacuation of nearly 500,000 people is expected to start  on May 13  with 576 cyclone shelters ready to provide refuge to those moved from their homes along a vast coast, said Bangladesh government administrator Muhammad Shaheen Imran.

In May 2008, Cyclone Nargis hit Myanmar’s southwestern Ayeyarwady or Irrawaddy Region with a storm surge that devastated populated areas around the Irrawaddy River delta. At least 138,000 people died and tens of thousands of homes and other buildings were washed away.

Myanmar authorities warned of possible flash floods and landslides in coastal areas as residents stocked up on essential supplies, said Hla Tun, a director at the Department of Meteorology and Hydrology.

Elon Musk said  on May 11  he has found a new CEO for Twitter, or X Corp. as it’s now called — and it's a woman. He did not name her but said she will be starting in about six weeks.

Musk, who bought Twitter last fall and has been running it since, has long insisted he is not the company’s permanent CEO. The Tesla billionaire said in a tweet that his role will transition to being Twitter's executive chairman and chief technology officer.

The trouble between former BharatPe managing director Ashneer Grover and BharatPe seems to be far from over as the Economic Offences Wing has registered an FIR under eight sections against Grover, his wife, and family members.

This FIR is for allegedly defrauding the company of Rs 81.28 crore. The sections include 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating), 120B (punishment of criminal conspiracy) and 406 (punishment for criminal breach of trust), among others.

The accusations against Grover and his family members also include illegitimate payments to the tune of Rs 7.6 crore to bogus HR consultants on the basis of 86 false and forged invoices and inflated and undue payments through passthrough vendors connected to the accused persons to the detriment of the complainant company.

In March last year, Grover resigned from BharatPe, and his wife Madhuri Jain, was terminated from the firm.

The battle between Grover and BharatPe started after an audio clip, allegedly of Grover abusing and threatening a Kotak Mahindra Bank employee for missing out on Nykaa's IPO, went viral on social media.

Meanwhile, BharatPe in a statement welcomed the registration of an FIR by the Economic Offences Wing of the Delhi Police in the Company’s complaint in relation to the criminal offenses by Grover, his wife Madhuri Jain and other family members. 

A few days after making a stellar debut on the stock market, Mankind Pharma came under the scanner of the Income Tax department. Taxmen conducted raids on the premises of Delhi-based Mankind Pharma over allegations of tax evasion. The officials carried out search operations in subsidiaries and plants of the company. The searches by the department will have no impact on its operations said the company adding that it is fully cooperating with the officials.

Mankind Pharma, the fourth-largest Indian pharmaceutical company in terms of domestic sales and the third-largest in terms of sales volume, made its debut on the stock exchanges on May 9 .

The Indian men's football team on  Mat 11 drew a tough group as it was clubbed with heavyweights Australia, Syria and Uzbekistan in the 2024 AFC Asian Cup, to be held in Doha in January.

India, who have had a successful qualifying campaign for the continental showpiece, were in pot 4 in the draw that was conducted in Doha.

India will be in Group B in the tournament proper.

Twenty-four teams were divided into four pots, and drawn into six groups of four teams each for the tournament that was originally scheduled to take place in China this summer.

India have qualified for back-to-back editions of the tournament for the first time.

The one in Qatar capital will be their fifth appearance in the tournament.

In the last edition, India started with a convincing win against Thailand but lost their last two matches to bow out of the tournament after raising hopes.

Qatar as hosts were automatically drawn in Group A and will play the tournament opener.

Iran were placed in Group C as Japan were drawn in Group D.

South Korea were placed in Group E while Saudi Arabia were drawn in Group F.

The Press Council of India has issued notices to the Punjab government seeking a report on the arrest of a reporter and "preventing her from doing her journalistic duty".

TV journalist Bhawana Kishore and two others were arrested by Punjab Police on May 5 when their vehicle allegedly hit a woman, injuring her hand. She was released from jail in Ludhiana on May 7, a day after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted her interim bail.

In the notices to the chief secretary, home secretary and Director General of Police of Punjab and other senior officers, Press Council of India chairperson Ranjana Prakash Desai sought the report within two weeks.

Kishore along with video journalist Mrityunjay Kumar and car driver Parminder Singh faced charges under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act for allegedly making casteist remarks towards the woman.

The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) deactivated more than 2.25 lakh mobile phone numbers in Bihar and Jharkhand in the month of April as the majority of the SIM cards were allegedly procured through forged documents.

The Telecom Service Providers have also blacklisted 517 Point of Sales (PoS) who have been prima facie found to be involved in unethical and illegal practices while issuing SIM cards.   Jharkhand also comes under the jurisdiction of DoT's LSA (Bihar).
