Lt Commander Disha Amrith, a woman naval air operations official posted at a strategic base, will lead the Indian Navy's Republic Day contingent of 144 young sailors and its tableau will showcase the 'Nari Shakti' in the force.

The tableau will also reflect the Navy's focus on remaining a combat ready, credible and cohesive force.

Besides Amrith, another woman officer -- Sub Lt Valli Meena S -- will be among the three platoon commanders of the naval contingent.

The latest parole to the Dera chief, who is serving a 20-year jail term for raping his two disciples, comes three months after he was granted a similar parole.

The Dera chief's last 40-day parole had ended on November 25 last year. He had gone to his Barnawa ashram in Uttar Pradesh after his release on October 14.

Courts besieged by numerous cases across the country could take a leaf out of Jharkhand’s unique tribal court. The first ‘Manki-Munda Nyay Panch’ (tribal custom court) in the eastern part of the state’s Kolhan has settled its first case in record time. It is ready with its ‘Panchat’ (order), which has been sent back to Kolhan civil court from where a formal decree will come.

The case, pending for two decades in civil courts, was settled in record three hearings at the Nyay Panch.

The state government in 2021 recognised the traditional judicial system prevalent among tribals in the Kolhan division, giving it the power to settle non-criminal land disputes. The Civil Procedure Code (CPC) is not effective in the area to deal with non-criminal matters.

A quasi-police forum of traditional tribal panchayat heads (mankis) at the panchayat level and a quasi-judicial forum and revenue collection by village heads (mundas) were in practice during British rule.

The Bombay High Court granted interim bail to Videocon Group founder Venugopal Dhoot on Jan 20, nearly a month after he was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the ICICI Bank-Videocon loan fraud case.

A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite Dere and P K Chavan granted bail to Dhoot on a surety of Rs one lakh.

The court permitted him to furnish cash bail and then deposit the surety amount two weeks thereafter.

The bench also refused the CBI's request to stay its order so that it could approach the Supreme Court in appeal.

Finance ministry on Jan 20 asked banks to achieve targets given under the flagship financial inclusion and social security schemes for the current financial year.

The advisory was given to heads of public sector banks (PSBs) and financial institutions during the review meeting headed by Financial Services Secretary Vivek Joshi .

During the meeting, the progress of social security (Jan Suraksha) schemes, including Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana, Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY), Atal Pension Yojana (APY) were reviewed.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will distribute about 71,000 appointment letters to newly inducted recruits in government departments and organisations on Jan 20  via conferencing, PM office said.He will address these appointees on the occasion.

The new recruits, will join various positions under Government of India like junior engineers, loco pilots, technicians, inspector, sub inspectors, constable, stenographer, junior accountant, Grameen Dak Sevak, income tax inspector, teacher, nurse, doctor, social security officer, PA, MTS,  among others. PM Modi, last year, had launched a recruitment drive “Rozgar Mela” for 10 lakh personnel.

The Delhi High Court has appointed former Supreme Court judge Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri as an administrator to oversee the utilization of funds for the upcoming International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup scheduled to be held in India in March.

The decision of the division bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad was following an application by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on the fund restriction from the Centre as per earlier high court order in relation to the Sports Code Conduct violations.
