Thousands of goals scored in Danish soccer in November will raise money for migrant workers who helped build World Cup projects in Qatar, Denmark’s soccer federation said.

It is the latest show of support for workers in Qatar from Denmark, whose national team will wear specially toned-down World Cup jerseys including a black option to honour those who died in the past decade.

Every goal scored in Denmark in November — from grass roots games to the top-tier Superliga — will earn 10 kroner (about $1.30) donated by soccer authorities.

The Danish federation said there were 55,000 goals in November 2021. An equivalent number this year would raise about $73,000.

The money will go to the BWI (International Federation of Building and Wood Workers) trades union to target construction workers in Qatar.

Qatar has been fiercely criticized for the physical and contractual conditions of workers, mostly from south Asia, needed to build stadiums, metro lines, roads and hotels needed for the month-long tournament that starts Nov. 20.

Despite being exonerated by investigative agencies in India, the High Commissioner of Guyana, Charandass Persaud, has been recalled by the South American country of Guyana over a video from last year that has gone viral.

In the video, it has been alleged that High Commissioner Persaud hurled abuses at a woman (some reports indicate that was an animal rights activist and also an academician) who was inquiring about feeding a stray dog in August 2021.

Guyana’s President, Irfaan Ali, through a live video on social media, recalled Persaud, despite the fact that Guyana’s Foreign Ministry had issued a statement that Indian authorities had exonerated Charandass Persaud of any wrongdoing after an investigation into the case.

The alleged incident happened in August 2021, but the matter came to light only after the video surfaced on social media.

A remark by Puri seer Swami Nischalananda Saraswati that Jesus Christ was not only a Hindu but lived in India for 10 years has stirred a controversy that has upset the Christians. During his interaction  in a programme in Chhattisgarh capital, the Shankaracharya of Puri said that out of the 10 years, Christ stayed for three years in Puri where he was in touch with then Shankaracharya and secured spiritual training.

His remarks did not go down well with the Christian community who questioned his knowledge and intentions since he is revered as a religious Hindu sage. 

Brother Brendan MacCarthaigh, the 84-year-old Irish educator left for his country Ireland on  Oct 30 after 62 years of devoted service in India, leaving behind a message in his farewell speech: Hang on to love as the centre of your value system, whatever may be your religion.

The educator decided to leave Kolkata after the last date of application and submission of documents for the extension of his visa was over.

In a major step, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on  Oct 30 laid the foundation stone of the joint manufacturing facility of the Airbus and TATA Consortium of Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) led by TASL in Vadodara .

The facility will manufacture C-295 medium transport planes for the Indian Air Force, the first time that the C-295 aircraft will be manufactured outside of Europe and by a private company. The total cost of the project is Rs 21,935 crore.

The manufacturing unit will also cater for the export of the premier transport aircraft as well as for additional orders by the Indian Air Force.

Over 100 MSMEs (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises) spread over seven states will be linked to this project said Prime Minister Modi.

Under the agreement, Airbus will deliver the first 16 aircraft in 'fly-away' condition from its final assembly line in Seville, Spain within four years and the subsequent 40 aircraft will be manufactured in India.

The first 16 fly-away aircraft are scheduled to be received between September 2023 and August 2025.

The first Made in India aircraft is expected in September 2026 and the remaining 39 will have to be produced by August 2031. Every year, a total of 8 aircraft will be produced at the facility.

There are 34 other countries which operate the C-295 aircraft. Till date, more than 200 aircraft have been delivered.

The approval of the Cabinet Committee on Security for the procurement of fifty-six C-295 MW transport aircraft from Airbus Defence and Space SA, Spain for the Indian Air Force was accorded in September 2021.

Hannah Pick-Goslar, one of Jewish diarist Anne Frank’s best friends, has died at age 93.

The Anne Frank Foundation paid tribute to Pick-Goslar, who is mentioned in Anne’s world-famous diary about her life in hiding from the Netherlands’ Nazi occupiers, for helping to keep Anne’s memory alive with stories about their youth.

Pick-Goslar grew up with Anne in Amsterdam after both their families moved there from Germany as Adolf Hitler’s Nazi party rose to power. The friends were separated as Anne’s family went into hiding in 1942 but met again briefly in February 1945, at the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in Germany, shortly before Anne died there of typhus.

Before World War II, their families lived next door to one another in Amsterdam, and Anne and Hannah went to school together.

A Pakistani suspected of links to Al-Qaeda has been released after 19 years in US custody and sent back to his home country.

Saifullah Paracha, 75, spent 18 years in the notorious Guantanamo detention centre operated by the US on its military base in the island of Cuba, and a year before that in the Bagram US military prison in Afghanistan after his capture in Thailand in 2003.

He was not formally charged with a crime in a court or tried by a military commission like some of the others detained at Guantanamo Bay.

Paracha was among several people captured in Afghanistan, Pakistan and elsewhere in the aftermath of the 9/11 terrorist attacks by Al-Qaeda in 2001 on the New York World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in Washington using hijacked jetliners.

Before Paracha's capture in Thailand, his son Uzair had been arrested in New York and tried.

But Uzair Paracha's conviction on charges of aiding terrorists and the sentence of 30 years was later overturned, based on new findings and he was sent back to Pakistan.

Saifullah Paracha who was educated in the US, was working as a businessman in Pakistan and had business interests in the US.

According to reports, he had been lured to Thailand by an offer of a business opportunity and seized on arrival.
