Arshad Sharif , senior Pakistani journalist living in hiding in Kenya was shot and killed by police after the car he was in sped up instead of halting at a roadblock near Nairobi. Kenyan police expressed regret over the incident, saying it was a case of “mistaken identity” during a search for a similar car involved in a case of child abduction.

Arshad Sharif, 50, left Pakistan in July to avoid arrest over criticizing the South Asian country’s powerful military. He was also a critic of the government of Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, who has repeatedly said he believes in freedom of the media.

On Oct 23 , Sharif spoke with Kenyan President William Ruto and asked him to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the journalist’s killing.

Nairobi police said Arshad Sharif was shot in the head and killed  on Oct 22 night after the car he was in with his brother, Khurram Ahmed, drove through a roadblock set up on the Nairobi-Magadi highway to check vehicles along the key route. They were traveling from the town of Magadi to the Kenyan capital.

Pakistani President Arif Alvi, Prime Minister Sharif, who is not related to the slain journalist, the country’s military and other senior officials in Pakistan expressed their condolences.

John Mccallum Marshall Shaw, the husband of Biocon's executive chairperson Ms Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw passed away. He was 73.

A Scotsman and an Indophile, he was the chairman and managing director of textiles MNC Madura Coats before joining Bengaluru-headquartered Biocon Ltd in 1999.

Born in 1949, he was a foreign promoter and on the advisory board of various Biocon group companies.

Akshata Murthy, Britain's incoming Prime Minister Rishi Sunak's wife whose tax status on income from outside the UK had triggered a controversy, earned Rs 126.61 crore (USD 15.3 million) in dividend income in 2022 from her shareholding in India's second-largest IT firm Infosys.

Murthy, daughter of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy, held 3.89 crore shares, or 0.93 per cent, of Infosys at the end of September, according to company filings with the stock exchanges.

Her holding is worth Rs 5,956 crore (about USD 721 million) at Tuesday's trading price of Rs 1,527.40 on the BSE.

Infosys paid Rs 16 per share final dividend for 2021-22 fiscal on May 31, this year.

Infosys is among the best dividend-paying companies in India.

Sunak, 42, on  Oct 23 won the race to lead the Conservative Party and is now set to become Britain's first prime minister of Indian origin and its youngest leader in modern times.

While Sunak is a British national, his wife Akshata is an Indian citizen.

Her non-domiciled status, which allows her to earn money abroad without paying taxes in Britain for a period of up to 15 years, has been a divisive issue in the UK.

Born in her mother Sudha Murthy's hometown of Hubballi in northern Karnataka, Akshata did her schooling in Bengaluru, before moving to Claremont McKenna College in California, where she graduated with a dual major in economics and French.

She thereafter went on to pursue her MBA at Stanford where she met Rishi Sunak.

The two married in 2009.

The couple, who own a vast real estate portfolio, has two children, Krishna and Anoushka.

Russian runner Natalya Antyukh was disqualified on Oct 24 from her 400-meter hurdles win at the 2012 London Olympics for doping, and Lashinda Demus of the United States is set to be upgraded to the gold medal.

Antyukh was already serving a four-year ban in a previous case judged by the Court or Arbitration for Sport last year that stripped her results from 2013 to 2015.

The new ruling based on historical evidence recovered from a Moscow testing laboratory database further disqualified Antyukh in all of her events from July 15, 2012 through June 29, 2013, track and field's Athletics Integrity Unit said.

At the 2012 Olympics, on Aug.8, Demus finished 0.07 seconds behind the Russian winner.

Now aged 39, Demus is in line to become an Olympic champion for the first time and get a gold medal from the International Olympic Committee to add to her world title won in 2011.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Oct 26 appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to have photos of Lord Ganesha and Goddess Lakshmi on currency notes.

During a media briefing, he said the photos of Ganesha and Lakshmi could be printed on fresh currency notes.

He added that the new notes could have a picture of Mahatma Gandhi on one side and of the two deities on the other.

He cited the example of Indonesia, a Muslim nation, that has a picture of Ganesha on its currency note.

Veteran Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge on  Oct 26 officially took charge as the party president at the All India Congress Committee headquarters in the national capital.

Congress Central Election Authority chairman Madhusudan Mistry handed over the certificate of election to the top post.

At the time when the de-escalation of the massive forces deployment by Chinese PLA and Indian Army is yet to take place in the Eastern Ladakh, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) has issued the fifth Request For Proposal (RFP) within a fortnight for procurement of drones to add to the capabilities of Indian Army’s elite Special Forces along the Northern Border.

The MoD intends to procure 750 Remotely Piloted Aerial Vehicle (RPAV) for the Indian Army’s Parachute (Special Forces) Battalions which are mandated to execute special missions behind enemy lines through Fast Track Procedure under Emergency Procurement.

The RFP in its description of the equipment mentions that the current volatile situation along Northern Borders warrants expeditious procurement of operational equipment.
