It was a blockbuster  on Oct 23 with over 1.8 crore viewers tuning into the India-Pakistan T20 World Cup match on the digital streaming platform, Disney + Hotstar.

The match was telecast on Star Sports in India for television but viewership numbers will be released only a week later by the television audience measurement body Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC).

It was also screened on theatres of PVR and Inox, which reported large visitors coming to watch the match at their cinema halls.

On Disney+ Hotstar app, which streamed the match live, it was the highest-ever viewership at 1.8 crore beating the previous record of 1.4 crore recorded between the two teams at the Asia Cup.

The Indian contingent at the U23 World Wrestling championship saw the biggest victory on  Oct 22 as Aman Sehrawat, the Indian teenager, made history by being the first wrestler from India to win a gold medal at the U-23 World Wrestling Championships in Pontevedra, Spain.

Ahmet Duman of Turkey, who had won the junior European silver medal, was defeated 12-4 by the 16-year-old Aman Sehrawat in the gold-medal match.

Olympic medalists Bajrang Punia and Ravi Kumar Dahiya had advanced to the final in their respective divisions in prior competitions, but they were only able to take home the silver.

Sajan Bhanwala won a bronze medal at the U23 world wrestling championships, becoming the first Greco-Roman wrestler from India to do so before Vikas and Nitesh.

Dalal Street in Financial District of Fort in Mumbai, is the address of the Bombay Stock Exchange and several financial institutions of the world.

The Centre has cancelled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licence of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF), a non-government organisation associated with the Gandhi family, for alleged violations of the law.

The action came after investigations carried out by an inter-ministerial committee formed by the home ministry in 2020.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of RGF while other trustees include former prime minister Manmohan Singh, former finance minister P Chidambaram, Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

Set up in 1991, RGF worked on a number of critical issues including health, science and technology, women and children, disability support, etc., from 1991 till 2009.

Home ministry cancels FCRA licences of 2 NGOs headed by Sonia Gandhi

The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has cancelled the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) licences of the Rajiv Gandhi Foundation (RGF) and the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust (RGCT), two NGOs headed by Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, for alleged violation of laws.

The action came following investigations carried out by an inter-ministerial committee formed by the MHA in 2020.

The investigators covered alleged manipulation of documents while filing income-tax returns, misuse of funds and money laundering while receiving funds from foreign countries, including China.

Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi is the chairperson of the RGF as well as the RGCT.

Iranian climber Elnaz Rekabi has thanked her supporters at home and abroad following her return to a hero's welcome in Tehran this week after competing abroad without a hijab.

Rekabi, 33, wore only a headband during a competition event at the Asian Championships in Seoul, in breach of the Islamic republic's dress rules requiring all Iranian women -- including female athletes competing abroad -- to wear a headscarf.

The move was seen by some as a gesture of solidarity with weeks of protests that have erupted in Iran following the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, after her arrest in Tehran for allegedly violating the country's dress code.

In a major relief for cash-strapped Pakistan, the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force (FATF) on Oct 21 took the terror-tainted country out of its inglorious ‘grey list’ (increased monitoring), four years after it was placed on it.

With the negativity gone, Islamabad will now be in a better position to seek financial aid from the International Monetary Fund, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank and the European Union to support its economy.

Announcing the decision after the two-day plenary in Paris on Oct 21, FATF president Raja Kumar said Pakistan’s leadership showed a high level of commitment to combat financial terrorism and money laundering. 

Reliance Jio 5G is here. As announced two months back, the telecom operator on Oct 22  has finally launched the new-age high-speed services in the country.

Reliance Jio Chairman Akash Ambani has launched the services in Rajasthan from the famous Shrinathji temple in Rajsamand.

This year, it aims to launch 5G services in major cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.

The telecom operator intends to expand its 5G network to each and every town, tehsil and talukas across the country by December of 2023, Reliance chairman Mukesh Ambani said on August 29 while announcing the 5G launch in India.

Earlier this year, Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani resigned from the board of Reliance Jio, thereby handing over reigns to his elder son Akash Ambani.

Meanwhile, Jio will deploy the latest version of 5G called standalone 5G. It is estimated to invest Rs 2 lakh crore in 5G infrastructure.

Launched six years ago, Jio has created multiple world records during its rollout of the largest 4G network in the shortest period of time. Jio's 4G network provides the highest quality, most affordable digital services to over 400 million loyal and delighted customers. Jio is expected to now raise the bar even further with its 5G services.

Reliance Jio Infocomm has acquired spectrum in 700MHz, 800MHz, 1800MHz, 3300MHz and 26GHz bands in the recently-concluded 5G auctions conducted by the Department of Telecommunications, where the government received around Rs 1.5 lakh worth of bids. Reliance Jio, Adani group, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone Idea were the four major participants in the spectrum auction.

Following the spectrum auction, the government issued spectrum allocation letters to telecom service providers in mid-August while asking them to prepare for the rollout of 5G services.

About 5G:

5G is the fifth-generation mobile network capable of transmitting a large set of data at a very rapid speed.

In comparison to 3G and 4G, 5G has a very low latency which will enhance user experiences in various sectors. Low latency describes the efficiency of processing a very high volume of data messages with a minimal delay.

The large-scale 5G rollout is also expected to bring more development in remote data monitoring sectors such as mining, warehousing, telemedicine, and manufacturing, among others.

Sebi has barred 10 entities, including Bombay Dyeing & Manufacturing Company Ltd and its promoters -- Nusli N Wadia, Ness Wadia and Jehangir Wadia -- from the securities markets for up to two years and levied a fine totalling Rs 15.75 crore on them for being involved in a fraudulent scheme of misrepresenting the company's financial statements.

Others banned and penalised by Sebi are -- Scal Services Ltd, a Wadia Group company, its then directors D S Gagrat, N H Datanwala Shailesh Karnik, R Chandrasekharan, and Durgesh Mehta, who was joint managing director and chief financial officer of Bombay Dyeing.
