Cash-strapped SpiceJet is all set to receive an additional Rs 1,000 crore under the revised Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS), which may help the airline wither the current headwinds. The Ajay Singh-promoted airline has already received a credit of Rs 350 crore under the scheme.

The fresh funding option for the carrier comes two days after the Department of Financial Services (DFS), Ministry of Finance, modified the ECLGS to enhance the maximum loan amount eligibility for airlines under ECLGS 3.0 to 100% of their fund based or non-fund-based loan outstanding as on the reference dates or Rs 1,500 crore, whichever is lower.

The scheme, introduced during the covid-19 pandemic, helps various sectors, entities get credit at a concessional rate of 7%.

The Centre on Oct 6 set up a tribunal comprising Delhi High Court judge Dinesh Kumar Sharma to adjudicate whether sufficient grounds were available for declaring the Popular Front of India (PFI) and eight associate groups as unlawful.

The Union home ministry issued a notification, announcing the formation of the tribunal.

Earlier, the Department of Justice in the law ministry had sent a communication conveying that Justice Sharma will head the tribunal.

Once an organisation is banned under the UAPA, a tribunal is set up by the government to adjudicate whether there is sufficient ground for the decision.

According to the procedure, the home ministry requests the law ministry to name a sitting judge of high court as presiding officer of the tribunal.

The law minister then requests the chief justice of the high court concerned to recommend a judge to head the tribunal.

The PFI and its associates were banned by the government for five years under the UAPA on September 28, accusing them of having "links" with global terror groups like the ISIS.

Army's northern command on Oct 6 inducted Kalyani M4, an indigenous all-terrain high mobility combat troop carrier with armour and mine protection, in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Northern Command shared the information on official Twitter handle with several pictures of its General Officer Commanding-in-chief (GOC-in-C) Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi along with the vehicle.

Kalyani M4, produced by Kalyani Group's Bharat Forge, underwent extensive trials in Ladakh, which also falls under the Northern Command, before the Army placed the order for these vehicles under an emergency procurement amid the China-India border standoff.

Punjab Vigilance Bureau on Oct 7  arrested Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ashish Kapoor, now posted as Commandant of 4th IRB at Pathankot, for taking bribe of Rs One crore.

French author Annie Ernaux was awarded this year's Nobel Prize in literature for "the courage and clinical acuity with which she uncovers the roots, estrangements and collective restraints of personal memory," the Swedish Academy said.

Ernaux, 82, started out writing autobiographical novels, but quickly abandoned fiction in favor of memoirs. Her more than 20 books, most of them very short, chronicle events in her life and the lives of those around her.
