Indian skipper Rohit Sharma now has the most sixes in the history of T20I cricket. The attacking batter accomplished this feat during his side's second T20I against Australia in Nagpur on Sep 24.

Rohit Sharma hit a delightful unbeaten 46 of 20 balls in the match, helping the Men in Blue reach the 91-run target in a rain-truncated match reduced to eight overs per side. His inning was decorated with four boundaries and four sixes.

Now Rohit has a total of 176 sixes in T20I cricket. In second place is New Zealand opener Martin Guptill (172). They are followed by West Indies legend Chris Gayle (124), former England skipper Eoin Morgan (120), and Australian veteran Aaron Finch (119).

Bangladesh and Ireland have qualified for the 2023 Women's T20 World Cup in South Africa after winning their respective semi-finals at the qualifying event in Abu Dhabi.

Bangladesh completed an 11-run win over Thailand and Ireland beat Zimbabwe by four runs in matches played at the Zayed Cricket Stadium on  Sep 24 to book their berths, joining Australia, England, India, New Zealand, Pakistan, South Africa, Sri Lanka, and the West Indies, who have already made it to the 10-team tournament.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sep 25  announced that the Chandigarh airport will now be named after Shaheed Bhagat Singh as a tribute to the great freedom fighter.

In his Mann Ki Baat radio broadcast, Modi also said that climate change is a major threat to marine ecosystems and that the litter on beaches is disturbing.

In the broadcast, Modi paid tributes to BJP ideologue Deen Dayal Upadhyaya, saying he was a profound thinker and a great son of the country.

Modi also said that 130 crore Indians were filled with pride over the return of cheetahs. He said a task force will monitor them and on the basis of that it will be decided when people can see them.

He said that an important day of 'Amrit Mahotsav' is coming on September 28 when the birth anniversary of Bhagat Singh will be celebrated.

Former Tripura chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb  has won the by election to the state's lone Rajya Sabha seat.

Deb, who has been recently made the BJP in-charge of Haryana, polled 43 votes- 36 of the saffron party and seven of its ally, the IPFT.

Navy, two Diving Support Vessels being built by Hindustan Shipyard Ltd (HSL), Visakhapatnam, were launched on Sep 22 .

Upbeat about the launch, the Indian Navy in a statement said, “The Diving Support Vessels (DSVs) are first of the kind ships indigenously designed and built at HSL for the Indian Navy. The vessels are 118.4 metres long, 22.8 metres at the broadest point and will have a displacement of 9,350 tons.”

As per the maritime tradition, the vessels were launched by Kala Hari Kumar, President Navy Welfare and Wellness Association (NWWA), who performed the traditional honour and naming them. Admiral R Hari Kumar, Chief of the Naval Staff, was the Chief Guest at the launching ceremony.

Once commissioned, these indigenous Diving Support Vessels or DSVs will serve as Indian Naval Ships Nipun and Nistar.

Defence ministry signs deal to buy 35 BrahMos missiles for Navy

The Ministry of Defence (MOD) signed a contract on  Sep 22 to acquire 35 combat and three practice BrahMos supersonic surface-to-surface cruise missiles from the M/s BrahMos Aerospace Pvt. Ltd. (BAPL). These missiles costing Rs 1,700 crore are to be deployed on the two P-15B class of stealth guided missile destroyers and “is going to significantly enhance the operational capability of Indian Navy (IN) fleet assets” , said the MoD. The MoD said, “BAPL is a Joint Venture (JV) between India and Russia making a crucial contribution to augment the new generation Surface-to-Surface Missiles with enhanced range and dual role capability for land as well as anti-ship attacks.”

Around 32 Indians have been rescued from the captivity of ethnic armed groups in Myawaddy, Myanmar, and almost 70 more Indians are yet be freed from similar captivities. Most of these hostage Indians were reportedly forced to commit cyber crimes by their captors.

The freed Indians were lured to a remote part of Myanmar on the pretext of lucrative jobs in the IT sector. Some fraudulent IT companies, which appear to be engaged in digital scamming and forged crypto activities, had lured the Indian nationals by using agents based in India, Thailand and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), external affairs ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said.

IT jobs are being posted on social media and unsuspecting candidates are being lured to work in Thailand, however, they are being smuggled into Myawaddy area and forcibly made to work long shifts in cybercrimes, cryptocurrencies.

Several hundreds of Indians are still trapped there and many more who are oblivious of the trap continue to be recruited. Myawaddy is controlled by Ethnic Armed Organisations, who have lured citizens of dozens of countries including India, China, Indonesia, Brazil, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Pakistan and Bangladesh amongst others. Myawaddy is a town in Kayin State of Myanmar, close to the border with Thailand. The people after recruitment without any proper documentation are taken to Myanmar illegally and held captive there.
