Chasing a tough target of 182, the ever dependable Mohammed Rizwan (71 off 51 balls) anchored the Pakistan innings but it was left-handed batter Nawaz, known more for his orthodox left-arm spin, who played the decisive knock of the match.

His 42 off 20 balls was something that India didn't factor in and there was no gameplan for him as Khushdil Shah and Iftikhar Ali completed a deserving victory with a ball to spare.

The CBI  has conducted search operations at six locations in West Bengal, including residences of Trinamool Congress MLA Subodh Adhikari and his brother, in connection with its probe into a chit fund case

Sleuths of the central agency raided the residence and office of the Bijpur legislator and his brother Kamal Adhikari's flat simultaneously.

Kamal Adhikari is the chairman of the Kanchrapara Municipality.

The raids were conducted two days after the Central Bureau of Investigation had arrested Trinamool Congress leader Raju Sahani, who is the municipal chairman of Halisahar near Kolkata, in connection with a chit fund case related to Sunmarg Welfare Organisation.

The probe agency had recovered Rs 80 lakh in cash, a country-made firearm and documents of properties worth Rs 2.75 crore from the residence of Sahani.

Former Kyrgyzstan president Roza Otunbayeva has been appointed as the new UN special envoy for crisis-stricken Afghanistan, Secretary-General Antonio Guterres announced.

Otunbayeva succeeds Deborah Lyons of Canada as head of the UN political mission in Afghanistan known as UNAMA. he will be in charge of the UN's humanitarian operations and dealings with the country's Taliban rulers.

Guterres said Otunbayeva brings to the position over 35 years of professional experience in leadership, diplomacy, civic engagement, and international cooperation. She served as president in 2010-2011, as foreign minister on three occasions, in parliament and as deputy prime minister. She was also Kyrgyzstan's ambassador to the United States and Britain.

Presently, Otunbayeva is a member of Guterres' High-Level Advisory Board on Mediation and head of the Roza Otunbayeva Initiative Foundation in Kyrgyzstan.

UN humanitarian chief Martin Griffiths warned the Security Council that Afghanistan faces deepening poverty, with 6 million people suffering severe food shortages stemming from humanitarian, economic, climate and financial crises.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has written a letter to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to further strengthen the strategic relations between the two countries and the prospects of developing them to serve their common interests.

Prime Minister Modi's letter was delivered by the External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to the UAE President Mohamed when he called on him during his just-concluded visit to the Gulf nation.

Jaishankar was in the UAE this week to attend the meetings of the 14th session of the UAE-India Joint Committee and the 3rd session of the UAE-India Strategic Dialogue.

The letter relates to the strengthening strategic relations between the two countries and the prospects of developing them to serve their common interests

India’s trade deficit more than doubled in August to $28.68 billion as compared to same month last year amid inflation and global geopolitical tensions, as per the government data. In the same month during previous year, the trade deficit stood at $11.71 billion.

However, sequentially it has moderated. In the previous month, it was at a record high of $30 billion.  Interestingly, exports  remained flat during the month, while imports increased by 37% to $67.68 billion. Commerce Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam believes exports will pick up in the coming months.  According to him, overall exports will cross $450 billion by end of the current fiscal year.

He said increase in imports was because of stocking up of coal and petroleum products for energy security.Between April and August 2022 , exports surged by 17.12% to $192.59 billion. Whereas imports saw an increase of 45.64% to $ 317.81 billion over the first five months of the current financial year.

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) on  sep 2 carried out search operations at the premises of online payment gateways - Razorpay Pvt Ltd, Cashfree Payments, Paytm Payment Services Ltd and entities controlled/operated by Chinese nationals in Bengaluru under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

During the search operations, the central law enforcement agency noticed that the “Said entities were generating proceeds of crime through various merchant IDs/accounts held with payment gateways/banks. They are operating from fake addresses and not the ones given on the MCA (Ministry of Corporate Affairs) website/registered address,” the ED stated.
