The US has expressed its displeasure over India taking part in the Vostok 2022 drills which are taking part in Vladivostok at present.

Meanwhile, the Vostok 2022 military exercises will be held from September 1 to 7 in different locations in the Far East and the Sea of Japan and involve more than 50,000 troops from China, India and several other countries.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, the exercises will allow the armies of the countries that are taking part to practice defensive and offensive operations at seven training grounds of the Eastern Military District and in maritime and coastal area of the Sea of Okhotsk and the Sea of Japan.

The Vostok 2022 exercises are expected to bring together over 50,000 troops,  will utilise 5,000 types of armaments and military hardware, 140 aircraft, 60 combat ships, gunboats and support vessels.

The countries taking part include India, China, Laos, Mongolia, Nicaragua, Syria amongst other countries.

The world’s fourth largest railway network, the Indian Railways, has also registered a big increase of around 38.2% in accidents in 2021 compared to the previous year. Most such accidents were reported from Maharashtra, accounting for 19.4% of the reported 17,993 accidents.

The bulk of accidents come amid claims of adopting all safety measures across the railways to reduce accidents that involve negligence or trespassing of the tracks, falling off running trains and others.

The National Crime Records Bureau’s 69th edition in its latest data said: “The 17,993 railway accidents caused injuries to 1,852 people and caused deaths to 16,431 people during 2021. In 2019, 24,619 railway accidents were reported, including 1,762 accidents from railway crossings,” the NCRB data shows.

After Maharashtra, West Bengal accounted for 13.5% of total reported cases of accidents in railways in 2021. West Bengal added a total of 2,425 cases of accidents in the total count from across the railways.

Germany will play a more significant role in the Indo-Pacific and conduct joint military exercises with India.  This was said  by the Germany’s new Ambassador to India, Dr Philipp Ackermann.

Germany had sent a Bayern frigate to the South China Sea last year, which was seen as a tough stand against territorial claims of China in Asia. German and Indian air forces sent fighter jets to take part in the recent multinational military exercise ‘Pitch Black 2022’ in Australia.

Ahead of assembly elections in Gujarat, the railway has redeveloped the Vadnagar railway station where Prime Minister Narendra Modi once sold tea along with his father in his childhood. This railway station earlier had a meter gauge rail line, which now has been converted into broad gauge rail line on the 55-km long Mehsana-Varetha rail section under the Western Railway.

Describing this newly-redeveloped face of this railway station as ‘New India, New Railway station’, the Ministry of Railway recently shared both old and the new pictures of this railway station. 

In 2021, PM Modi had virtually flagged a pair of MEMU passenger trains running between Gandhinagar and Varetha railway station in Mehsana district. To make this section more commercially viable, the railway has started running both passenger and freight trains regularly. The railway has given a major facelift to this railway station while the Gujarat Tourism department has installed a  big tea- kettle at the railway station  as a reminiscence of India’s PM once having sold tea here.

RJD minister Kartikeya Singh  has resigned from the cabinet after the Opposition started targeting chief minister Nitish Kumar over his induction and law department allotted to him.

Earlier Nitish Kumar who was facing the Opposition’s ire for Singh's induction into his cabinet shifted him from the law department to the sugarcane industries department.

Singh who has been slapped with a warrant of arrest in a kidnapping case was divested of the law department a day before he is expected to appear in court in a kidnapping case with his interim protection from court against any coercive action ending on September 1.

The National Investigation Agency has announced a cash reward of Rs 25 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of fugitive underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, a key accused in the 1993 Mumbai serial blasts.

The probe agency has also announced a cash reward of Rs 20 lakh on Ibrahim's close aide Shakeel Shaikh alias Chhota Shakeel, and Rs 15 lakh each on associates Haji Anees alias Anees Ibrahim Shaikh, Javed Patel alias Javed Chikna and Ibrahim Mushtaq Abdul Razzak Memon alias Tiger Memon.

All of them are wanted accused in the case of 1993 Mumbai serial bomb blasts.

US President Joe Biden has announced his intent to appoint Indian-Americans Manu Asthana and Madhu Beriwal to his National Infrastructure Advisory Council.

The President's National Infrastructure Advisory Council (NIAC) advises the White House on how to reduce physical and cyber risks, and improve the security and resilience of the nation's critical infrastructure sectors.

The 26 individuals announced to the NIAC are leading senior executives with deep experience across a broad range of sectors, including banking and finance, transportation, energy, water, dams, defence, communications, information technology, healthcare services, food and agriculture, government facilities, emergency services, and higher education.
