A professional tennis player from France who reached a career-high ranking of No. 39 last year has accused her former coach of rape and sexual assault.

The French Tennis Federation said in a statement that it is “standing by” Fiona Ferro, a 25-year-old who lost in qualifying at the U.S. Open last week, “in the proceedings she has initiated against her former coach, Pierre Bouteyre.”

Punjab Kings are set to sign World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss as the head coach ahead of the 2023 IPL with the expectation that the Australian guides them to the elusive title.

The 59-year-old from New South Wales is an IPL regular and most recently coached the Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Besides guiding England to their maiden ODI World Cup title in 2019, Bayliss headed the support staff of Kolkata Knight Riders when they won IPL in 2012 and 2014.

Bayliss replaces India great Anil Kumble, whose contract was not renewed after the team failed to make the play-offs in his three-year term.

Punjab's only final appearance in IPL history came in 2014 when they lost to KKR.

Former Tata Sons chairman Cyrus Pallonji Mistry was on  Sep 4 killed in a road accident after his car hit a divider in Maharashtra's Palghar district neighbouring Mumbai. He was 54.

Mistry was travelling from Ahmedabad to Mumbai in a Mercedes car on the Mumbai Ahmedabad National Highway.

In 2012, Mistry's name made headlines when he was selected to lead one of India's largest business conglomerates Tata Sons after Ratan Tata stepped down. Cyrus was chosen as the sixth chairman of the group based on the representation of Shapoorji Palonji Group, the largest shareholder in Tata Group.

However, Mistry was ousted from the position in October 2016 as "the board of Tata Sons lost confidence in him and his ability to lead the Tata Group in future". Former chairman Ratan Tata then returned as interim chairman. Natarajan Chandrasekaran was named as the new chairman a few months later.

Born to a Parsi family, the 54-year-old Cyrus Mistry was the son of Indian billionaire and construction magnate Pallonji Mistry.

Members of the Paraja tribal community in Odisha have called for action against a social worker who allegedly forced its icon, Padma Sri awardee Kamala Pujari, to dance inside a hospital in Cuttack before she was discharged.

The incident came to light after a video, in which the elderly woman was seen dancing in the ICU of a government hospital, went viral.

Pujari, who was awarded the Padma Sri in 2019 for promoting organic farming and preserving over 100 varieties of indigenous seeds of different crops including paddy, was admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack with kidney problems.

Pujari belongs to the Paraja community, a major Scheduled Tribe of Odisha, which comprise around 4 per cent of the state's tribal population.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on  Sep 2 morning commissioned the first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant in a ceremony at Cochin Shipyard Limited in Kochi.

Designed by the Indian Navy's in-house Warship Design Bureau (WDB) and built by Cochin Shipyard Limited, a Public Sector Shipyard under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Vikrant has been built with state-of-the-art automation features and is the largest ship ever built in the maritime history of India.

The Indigenous Aircraft Carrier is named after her illustrious predecessor, India's first aircraft carrier, which had played a vital role in the 1971 war.

It has a large amount of indigenous equipment and machinery, involving major industrial houses in the country as well as over 100 MSMEs. With the commissioning of Vikrant, India will have two operational aircraft carriers, which will bolster the maritime security of the nation.

As per the Indian Navy, the 262-meter-long carrier has a full displacement of close to 45,000 tonnes which is much larger and more advanced than her predecessor.

With Vikrant, India has joined a select group of nations having the niche capability to indigenously design and build an aircraft carrier.IAC Vikrant consist of 14 decks with 2,300 compartments which can carry around 1,500 sea warriors and to cater to the food requirements, around 10,000 chapatis or rotis are made in the ship's kitchen, which is called the ship's galley.

The ship is powered by four Gas Turbines totalling 88 MW power and has a maximum speed of 28 Knots. Built at an overall cost of close to Rs 20,000 crores, the project has been progressed in three Phases of the contract between MoD and CSL, concluded in May 2007, December 2014 and October 2019 respectively.

The ship's keel was laid in Feb 2009, followed by launching in August 2013.

With an overall indigenous content of 76 per cent, IAC is a perfect example of the nation's quest for "Aatma Nirbhar Bharat" and provides a thrust to Government's 'Make in India' initiative.

The ship would be capable of operating an air wing consisting of 30 aircraft comprising of MIG-29K fighter jets, Kamov-31, MH-60R multi-role helicopters, in addition to indigenously manufactured Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) and Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) (Navy). Using a novel aircraft-operation mode known as STOBAR (Short Take-Off but Arrested Landing), the IAC is equipped with a ski- jump for launching aircraft, and a set of 'arrester wires' for their recovery onboard.

On his maiden foreign trip as the Indian Army Chief Manoj Pande is likely to visit Nepal later this week to carry on the decade-old tradition. The first foreign visit of the Indian Army Chief is generally to the neighbouring country after taking charge as the 29th Chief of the Army Staff. General Pande assumed the office in April.
